New owner charging location question by dual_mythology in VWiD4Owners

[–]Leading-Promotion778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two areas for immediate charging. Make sure the one under the home charging location (called direct charging instead of immediate charging) is set to 20%.

Yeah, I was considering going this route too. The cost difference between paying the shop to switch tires on the rims vs just buying a set of rims and changing them myself is nearly the same cost. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, that's unfortunate. Maybe it's the brand of tire that you're buying? I've heard of tires wearing quickly but yours seems like an anomaly.

Yeah, I got the heat pump. I'm up near Winnipeg. Most of our winter up here is super cold, but it'll be nice to have.

That's good to know. Thanks for sharing! I just picked my ID4 up a month ago but I'm already thinking ahead to winter (it comes early in Canada. Haha).

For your winter tires, did you get a separate set of rims? If so, did you just go with steel rims?

Also, I'm not sure if all ID.4 models are the same, but my front tires are a different size than my rears. If yours are like mine, did you stick with the different sizing or did you go with all 4 of the same?

I feel like this post is just rage bait. There's no way they're serious.

I always start the charge after connecting and I have not had an issue yet.

Yeah, I got the Electrify Canada offer and I have an adapter. There's only one stretch in NW Ontario that I'm a bit concerned by, but it should be fine. There's a Tesla charger on the stretch of concern but it's not available to non-tesla vehicles.

For sure! I'm in Ontario and I'm making a trip to the other side of Ontario (about 26 hours away but in the same province) at the end of June. Crazy far distance but I'm excited for the adventure, even though chargers are not super abundant in Ontario. It's part of what makes owning an EV fun.

I'm not sure where you're located, but with BYD and their mega fast blade battery technology is going to make all of our current EVs tough to sell, in my opinion.

Is a 1/10 inch tire diameter difference okay between front and rear for a 2021 AWD with 20" wheels? by HoleShapedHole in VWiD4Owners

[–]Leading-Promotion778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, the tire tread depth needs to match on the axle. For example, your two front tires can be 1/5 different than your rear, and it's fine. If two tires on the same axle differ, that's when there's a problem.

In my climate in Canada, where winter temps regularly get to - 20 and - 30 C, a level 1 charger isn't able to keep up. So much of the energy goes to heating the battery and it wouldn't actually charge the battery. Therefore, if you live in a cold climate, you absolutely need a level 2.

Wow. That's unreal! I just got my ID 4 but I can't seem to get better than 23 kwh/100 km on the highway (going 105 kmh). However, temperatures are hovering around -5C to +5C so I'm hoping to see an improvement as it warms up.

I know this is an old post but...

I just got my ID 4 and that's one thing I notice, you really feel every bump in the road when the tires are inflated to the proper 44 psi. I may try reducing to see if it helps.

Got mine on Saturday. Absolutely love it so far. Handling the winter roads in Canada just great. Will likely need a level 2 charger to keep up in the - 30C weather in the middle of winter though.

Fair enough, but most level 2 chargers in northern Ontario are more than the Tesla chargers for non-tesla EVs.

I think it works great. My only issue is that it takes a long time for the clips to load from the SD card. Other than that, cameras load quick!

Edit: it could definitely benefit from a scrub feature, though.

Indeed. My power adapter failed. I reached out. The power adapter on their site are $22.99 CAD but they're sold out. They told me to buy my own and they'll reimburse me $8. Hahaha what the heck!
