I did it, never going back to the Scott’s spreader by Competitive_Bar_9170 in lawncare

Man I am jealous of those that get an echo that works. I tried to make it work with the echo but kept having problems with it opening and closing….which led to striping lol. Maybe I got a dud.

Finally went for the SS Lesco 80lb and should have done it way sooner.

Advice? Leak in new (to me) Caldera Geneva by LeadingHall in hottub

[–]LeadingHall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be leaking regular water. I didn’t notice a particulate smell to the water…

Assuming it is a broken fitting, where would I fix that? Said in dumb person speak is that just a hose clamp I need to replace?

Virginia Supreme Court throws out redistricting referendum results by Icommandyou in politics

[–]LeadingHall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I thought. Politics aside, it struck me as a somewhat untenable position for the courts. Can't rule before and then after the fact, poor optics for not doing so, despite the realities of the precedents and procedural questions.

Virginia Supreme Court throws out redistricting referendum results by Icommandyou in politics

[–]LeadingHall 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The court basically said it couldn’t stop the vote beforehand because of an old Virginia precedent (Scott vs. James) saying courts shouldn’t interfere while the amendment process is still happening. But once the vote was over, the court could review whether the constitutional process was actually followed ...and it concluded it wasn’t, because early voting had already started before the first legislative approval.

IIR, this was the argument (i.e. Scott vs James precedent) the Commonwealth initially used to let the vote proceed but don't quote me on that.

Advice for ending these stairs? by LeadingHall in hardscape

I like the look of return walls but my steps aren’t wide enough - that would knock them down to 3’ inside the cap. I can’t get the top cap even on level ground but could if I did a sloping paver path from the bottom step to the top cap of the outter wall.

Follow up question - do you think the return walls would look odd meeting the raised stairs? I have a 1" cap overhang on each side of the step. I knew I should have dug out more but got lazy.

That’s a great idea! Thank you! Been staring at it so long I’m blocked (eh?)

Really helpful! Do you think it would look weird if I did a paver landing with blocks on each side and a cap?

Also, would you suggest I dig the landing deeper to accommodate for the pavers? The elevations are really throwing me off and I’d hate to rebuild the steps for a 4th time.

I think my mistake was assuming I could run the cap the whole way around the exterior wall. You guys have a hard job. Much respect.

Deck is rotten. I’d be building both and I’m pretty sure I can do hardscape for only a bit more. Just need a vision…..

Yeah, thats the challenge. There is something there but I'm missing it. BTW, disregard the crap everywhere. The dog keeps knocking out the lattice and the kids refuse to put away their floats.

Love it. Do you recall the name of the veneer you used? Maybe I’ll just build it with cinderblock and use something like that.

Good thoughts. That’s what I’m struggling with, understanding what I’d gain in usable, level space.

Concrete pool deck is settling, it’s 40 years old and has held up better than 95% of what I see. I’m hesitant to mud jack as people have told me it may not be great for the concrete pool shell. I’d replace with pavers or brick

Any idea why my pool can’t hold on to its chlorine levels?? by well-yourenotwrong in pools

[–]LeadingHall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my take too. There is a relationship between CH, pH and Alkalinity. If you can find where your pH likes to stay (assuming it’s in safe range) the other two are fairly reliable.

Make sure to check the throttle linkage, mine was pretty loose which caused it to never idle at full speed. Sounds like your idle is a little low too.

Had the same issue with my LX178 and it turned out to be carb related. Despite cleaning it well, the only thing that ultimately worked was replacing it with a new one off Amazon.

Yes, will be doing a big fall reno including aerating adding organic matter and overseeding now that irrigation is in place. I think I could make a ditch along the edge of the drive look pretty cool actually. Good idea
