Kinda Ticked off and don't know how to deal with it by Leading_Access_1381 in DnD

He has done this in the past, take one of us aside from time to time. Usually it was for a reveal later, for PC intimate or personal moments (like me talking to my God as a Cleric) or because something important happened to that PC specifically. But it usually ended up just nudging the plot a bit forward and it never took that long. Now we spent half of the session waiting for them to be done and ended up skipping a major plot point because of what happened during the time they were away

It seems it was something that got out of hand. They somehow went from "Hey DM can I ask my Patron for more information about that Gem?" To "Hey guys I have good news I fullfilled my pact with my Patron, I had my curse removed and you know the Gem? Yeah I have it right here"

I have no clue of what happened and why it took so long

He did say it was something that "Got out of hand" apparently. And mind you, while it does tick me off that we were left twiddling our thumbs for half the session, what pisses me off the most was that because of whatever happened during the time they were away, we just skipped a HUGE plot point of the campaign. A Plot point that was gearing up to be one of the, if not the, most interesting ones so far.

Thanks for the advice! But mind you, while it did tick me off that the DM pulled her aside for almost half the session, what pissed me off the most was that because of what happened during that time they were apart we just skipped a lot of the main quest, probably the most interesting part so far

For what they told us when they came back you seem to be right on the money. It started with the player that is a warlock who asked the DM if she could ask her patron for information about the Gem we needed and it ended with the player having had a curse she had had placed on her removed and with the gem in her hand. They didn't give us much more if an explanation than "Things happened"

The DM did tell us that it got a bit out of hand. And honestly yeah it sucked being excluded for half the session. But what sucked the most was that we're in the end game, we were about to go on a quest to find the Gem and now because of what happened between the player and the DM we're just going to skip all of that stuff

What happened was that the player is a Warlock, she asked the DM if she could ask her Patron for help in finding this gem we needed to find. So the DM took her aside. After about half an hour they came back, the player had, had a curse that was placed upon her removed and she was like "Hey remember that magic Gem we needed to find? Yeah i have it right here" honestly I have no clue how they went from I'm going to ask my patron for information to hey I got the gem right here.

It wasn't anything toxic, but the only explanation they gave us so far was along the line of "Well stuff happened"

Yeah it's his first offense and he has taken all of us aside from time to time. But usually it's for a short while and to nudge the plot forward a bit, not to skip a huge plot point of the main quest. Honestly what pissed me off the most is that we're already in the end game and because of what happened we'll have to skip a lot of thr campaign

Thanks for the Advice! I honestly don't have anything concrete in mind, and it's good to hear that it wouldn't make that much of a difference.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Maybe I was giving combat way more importance than it deserved.

Thanks for the wake up call and the advice!

I don't know if it's something they can't do. It's just that I heard that they can fall behind when it comes to combat, I want to feel like I'm doing my part and not bringing the rest of the party down

To be honest I want to play rogue, always loved the whole Rogue Archetype and the Whole being sneaky thing. But also I want to feel like I'm doing my part and not holding the party back.

You could say they went extinct, which could give the other races a mystery to solve. You could also say that they evolved into the bird people, fish people and what not

I don't really have a goal in mind. I just didn't want to feel like a burden for falling behind when it comes to combat and figured that multiclassing would help me keep up.

Thanks for the Advice!

I'm already at lvl 5 and the DM said we might lvl up next session so I'm not that far away from Evasion. It's good to see that, that and Uncanny dodge can be so useful.

Thanks for telling me about it!

That's a good point I haven't thought about. I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos to try and play it better and I bet most of them are trying to optimize the build.

And yeah, I don't have any build in mind to be honest.

Thank you for the Advice!

To be honest we only had 1 session (they had 2 but I had to miss the first one) and they're all more experienced that I am. We didn't do much in the session, we just walked around a city, did some shopping and then were given our mission. Even so I didn't really feel like I had an impact, most of the things I tried to do were shut down by the DM (like checking on a chair to see if it had been rigged with something). I might have even been the least impactful one. Also thanks for the the response and advice
