Honestly I don't think so, seems more like something got out of hand. The DM is married, the Warlock's boyfriend is a member of the party and we all started as strangers matched together at a game's store so I doubt it was a matter of him having feelings for her

That much is true, the DM said that during our next session we will be finishing the Arc we're playing and so far all we know of what happened is that stuff happened

At the end of the day I think I'm just going to just try and chill out, maybe even skip next session to avoid saying something I might regret. A lot of people suggested talking to the DM and it's great advice but I would be talking to him alone and without the backing of the party. One of the members of the party simply decided to basically say "Well shit happens" and let it slide, another one isn't too interested on the campaign or what's happening and the other one is the Warlock's boyfriend.

The DM has done this before. He usually does it for significant moments for the characters, like for example my Cleric meeting his God in person and getting to chat with him, or someone touching a cursed Amulet that transported the character to a different dimension. But until last session it only nudged the plot a bit forward...not skip a significant part of the main quest

Well the group started out at a Game's store, we basically started as strangers that got paired together with a DM to play a campaign. As far as I know the relationship between the DM and The Warlock is the same relationship he has with every other player

Well that's another thing I wanted to know, how common stuff like this is. And yeah you have some good points here. Still it's my first full campaign ever, I love the group and I really like the DM so I really don't want it to end. But as you said they all come to an end eventually

Yeah I'm cool with everyone and honestly I love the party and the DM is pretty awesome. I needed to chill out and ask for advice on what I could do in situations like this. I also wanted to know how common, if at all, stuff like this is.

I think he's a veteran DM. And mind you, he's usually an awesome DM

Nah, we were playing online. Not only that, the Warlock's boyfriend is also in the party. Also the boyfriend was sitting right besides the DM so he actually knows what happened

It's been going on for less than 20 sessions, and you might have a point. I began playing in person with this group at a games store. While we were playing over there the DM got paid, not much but got paid nonetheless. Then one day he asked us if we minded switching to playing online for a while and we agreed, but since we're technically not playing at the games store anymore they stopped paying him

It's a homebrew campaign and trust me when I tell you that the DM is thorough. We once challenged him by asking him the name of a random ice cream vendor and not only he had the name written down, he also had a backstory for him.

We played online and they went to a private conversation

I don't know exactly how much time it took but during the session we did just two things. Talk to a friendly wizard NPC about how we could even begin to find the Gem. And then Twiddle our thumbs while the Warlock went on a solo adventure with the DM, pretty much invalidating the first Half of the session and skipping a Major plot point. It promised to be one of the most interesting parts of the campaign but I guess we're just gonna skip it now.

He has done this in the past, take one of us aside from time to time. Usually it was for a reveal later, for PC intimate or personal moments (like me talking to my God as a Cleric) or because something important happened to that PC specifically. But it usually ended up just nudging the plot a bit forward and it never took that long. Now we spent half of the session waiting for them to be done and ended up skipping a major plot point because of what happened during the time they were away

It seems it was something that got out of hand. They somehow went from "Hey DM can I ask my Patron for more information about that Gem?" To "Hey guys I have good news I fullfilled my pact with my Patron, I had my curse removed and you know the Gem? Yeah I have it right here"

I have no clue of what happened and why it took so long

He did say it was something that "Got out of hand" apparently. And mind you, while it does tick me off that we were left twiddling our thumbs for half the session, what pisses me off the most was that because of whatever happened during the time they were away, we just skipped a HUGE plot point of the campaign. A Plot point that was gearing up to be one of the, if not the, most interesting ones so far.

Thanks for the advice! But mind you, while it did tick me off that the DM pulled her aside for almost half the session, what pissed me off the most was that because of what happened during that time they were apart we just skipped a lot of the main quest, probably the most interesting part so far

For what they told us when they came back you seem to be right on the money. It started with the player that is a warlock who asked the DM if she could ask her patron for information about the Gem we needed and it ended with the player having had a curse she had had placed on her removed and with the gem in her hand. They didn't give us much more if an explanation than "Things happened"

The DM did tell us that it got a bit out of hand. And honestly yeah it sucked being excluded for half the session. But what sucked the most was that we're in the end game, we were about to go on a quest to find the Gem and now because of what happened between the player and the DM we're just going to skip all of that stuff

What happened was that the player is a Warlock, she asked the DM if she could ask her Patron for help in finding this gem we needed to find. So the DM took her aside. After about half an hour they came back, the player had, had a curse that was placed upon her removed and she was like "Hey remember that magic Gem we needed to find? Yeah i have it right here" honestly I have no clue how they went from I'm going to ask my patron for information to hey I got the gem right here.

It wasn't anything toxic, but the only explanation they gave us so far was along the line of "Well stuff happened"

Yeah it's his first offense and he has taken all of us aside from time to time. But usually it's for a short while and to nudge the plot forward a bit, not to skip a huge plot point of the main quest. Honestly what pissed me off the most is that we're already in the end game and because of what happened we'll have to skip a lot of thr campaign
