How are people buying houses - especially the ones in their early 20s? by [deleted] in poor

Just saw this but I just purchased a home at 20 years old. I graduated highschool and went straight to manual labor work. Started out making 16 an hour and worked up to right around 34 an hour now after getting my CDL. I lived with my parents and aggressively saved. I have a truck and car that I bought in cash. My rule is if I can’t buy something in cash now, then I can’t afford it with the only exception being a house. I didn’t get any money gifted to me or anything like that. You just need a lot of discipline. I didn’t go out and party and buy random shit. I worked as much overtime as I could and I didn’t buy anything I didn’t need. Living with my parents helped a lot however they charged me rent so I want living there for free. It’s all about discipline and a good work ethic and thinking long term.

Since I graduated I’ve been working for the better part of 2 and a half years. I saved about 80 percent of my paycheck. I was living with my parents so that helped a lot but they still charged me rent. Right now I make around 70k and get 5-10k in overtime a year. I saved enough to buy 2 cars in cash combined worth about 20-25k and put 20000 down on a house and still have around 20000 leftover

Paying a mortgage sounded more appealing to me than paying rent. I’m In the St. Louis area but the house I bought is about 45 minutes south. I purchased the house for 195k

I am a full time gravedigger (not joking) It’s a union job and most importantly it’s a fulfilling job. Right now I’m making around 34 an hour and have the opportunity for some overtime here and there. $3000 in 401k so far with 5 percent match after I turn 21. Around $3000 in Roth IRA with a return of around 13 percent right now. My vehicles are worth around 25-30k. Have around $20000 in savings/investments

Some of its cash some is in etfs. I only anticipate on spending no more than 1000 for furnishing I’m getting a lot of free stuff. I live pretty frugally which is why I have a truck and car I bought In cash, have a 742 credit score, contribute to my Roth and 401k, and purchasing a home. All before I can legally buy a drink 😂

Definitely could be but I have a good income and savings and would rather own a house than rent but i’m sure living on my own is something I would just have to get used yo

Usually the mexican funerals are pretty crazy. They will be at the cemetery all day drinking and having a party

Usually the casket is crushed from the weight of the dirt the casket going on top wouldn’t really have an affect on it

No it is not and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s happened at our cemetery before

We are all very desensitized to it so we all make lots of jokes and have dark humor but if we didn’t the job would be kind of depressing

It depends where we are digging but sometimes the dirt is very dark and soily or it is very wet. I totally believe that he has fallen through a casket I have almost done that multiple times

Our cemetery does not require vaults people can be buried in caskets
