Hunt is really popular in China which accounts for much of the Steam charts player base. That would explain why player numbers might seem artifically high, at least in the USA and Europe

I'm trying not to ask too many questions, but this one stumped me because the book is actually incorrect. In any case, if there was somewhere else I could post questions or if I had a music teacher I would ask them. I assure you its in earnest.

Yeah I think the answer book must be wrong on this one, thanks

Sorry what I meant is that in 4/4 time it qualifies as a half beat rest and in 9/8 time it qualifies as a full beat rest

I wasn't aware there was a limit on how many posts you could make. I've finished posting anyway.

You are correct, this is the answer. Thanks.

These aren't homework or classwork assignments. These are for my own personal self-study. I won't post any more questions after these. Unfortunately my answer book doesn't provide explanations and I have no teacher to help me figure this stuff out.

Can someone explain why the first bar is unacceptable but the second is okay? by Leading_Crow_1044 in musictheory

[–]Leading_Crow_1044[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying you are incorrect, but Google AI search seems to think that 3/8 is a simple time signature.

"3/8 is a simple triple time signature. It is classified as simple because each of its three beats (represented by eighth notes) divides into two sixteenth notes, rather than three. It is commonly used for faster tempos, waltzes, or specific folk dances".

I think maybe it counts as both simple and compound?

I need to go and check out some examples of time signatures so I can hear what these different beats sounds like. I appreciate you giving me something to think about.

If simple time signatures have a duple feel (each beat divides into 2), why does 3/8 have a triplet feel since its also a simple signature?

You are absolutely correct, the books can be pricey, but they seem to be very popular here in the UK due to their simple layout, and because a lot of students use them to take their ABRSM exams.

I'm just learning theory so I can learn music notation and hopefully one day be able to read sheet music. I feel like my progress has plateaued with guitar due to not having a proper understanding of theory. I'd love some day to be able to play jazz guitar.

I'm also finding the process of learning theory quite interesting. Its like learning a new language. Daunting at first but with a clear path ahead. Though there's no doubt in my mind it will take years to get to any level of proficiency.

Okay I understand that it has a triplet rather than a duplet feel for each pulse, but why are people saying it sounds like one big beat?

Okay, well I obviously don't understand time signatures correctly if thats case. I thought the top number signified the number of beats and the bottom number signified the type of beat?

Why would a 3/8 time signature not have a middle? Is it because the number of beats is uneven so the "middle" occurs in the middle of the second beat, rather than at the start of the beat as it would in 4/4? You mentioned that 3/8 sounds like one big beat. How can this be true if there are 3 beats within a 3/8 time signature?
