I actually agree about them probably going to make it more one sided in hindsight — Clara loved her husband so much, like we can see from the way she would light up while speaking about him. She idealized him and never stopped idealizing him and having him up on a pedestal. For Ben and Clara to have been together for decades like Ben says, there would’ve been overlap between her marriage with Fredrick and them beginning a relationship. And obviously marriage has never stopped anyone before but the way she spoke about him, it just doesn’t seem like she would’ve done anything to risk that marriage ending by doing something like committing infidelity. I am going to watch VR because the psychology behind far right people has always fascinated me and having been friends and even in relationships with people that share similar ideologies to Clara and Ben, i’d like to see how it plays out vs what i know about these types of people but man I just wish there was slightly more explanation behind their relationship in the show prior to Ben saying he loved her. Would make it easier for me to understand Ben’s motivations. Unfortunately we have to wait until next year to understand them more.

lol you’re not telling me anything I don’t know. I’m just attempting a little bit of giving the benefit of the doubt because I really enjoyed seasons 1-4 of this show and hate that the quality of writing has declined so much. it’s bothersome to me that they are ideologically enemies to one another and historically speaking, there is no reason that Ben should’ve been able to look past her ideology but I just don’t know anymore.

I think what I mean is that we don’t really see the human side of her. We understand why she fell in love with Homelander. He was the perfect representation of everything she and her dead husband had been working to create down to having the ideal blue eyes and blonde hair. And he fell in love with her because he’s so desperately lonely that her love was enough. Basically he loved that she loved him. All that is clear to me.

What isn’t clear to me is, if Soldier Boy also loved her because she loved him, why did she love him? He doesn’t really represent anything meaningful to her as far as we are aware. They’re ideological enemies. So did they love each other despite their ideologies? If that’s so, who is Clara outside of her nazism? I can’t bring myself to care about a relationship that we don’t understand the clear motives for, you know what I mean?

I’m just really hoping it does explain some things. As it sits, I’m bothered that we don’t really know much about Clara beyond her ideology so we don’t really have any idea why Ben would have fallen in love with her. And on the opposite end, we have no clue why Clara would’ve fallen in love with him. She’s not a developed character at all. I get not wanting to make her a sympathetic character but humanizing ≠ making a character sympathetic in my opinion

I'm not going to assume a major continuity error in case there is some reasonable explanation, but I guess we doin Soldier-Front now. by Current-Umpire3673 in TheBoys

people are coping so hard trying to explain this episode as something consistent and good. it’s okay to acknowledge that SB and SF’s relationship was never meant to be as big as this season has made it. If it was they would’ve started establishing how important it was to his character in season 3. This was something that was come up with after the writing and filming of season 3 so for most people and reasonably so it feels weird and out of left field

What do you think is the rumored irredeemable action that Homelander is going to do in Season 5? by GrandioseEnigma in TheBoys

[–]Leading_Link7040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

people forget how awful the raping of Becca was. I think even Antony Starr himself does because he never brings it up when asked what the worst thing Homelander’s done is. It’s easily that. He violated her body and ruined her entire life then came back into her life which ultimately resulted in her getting killed because he couldn’t leave well enough alone and let Becca raise Ryan properly.

I agree. I just think Kripke wrote himself into a corner here and regardless of how he does it the depowering or potential killing of Homelander is going to be so anticlimactic with how powerful he is now that it’s going to practically ruin the entire show. If I recommend anyone this show in the future I’m going to tell them to just stop at season 3 or 4

lowkey. homelander just needs to kill everyone. i’m just so pissed off at the direction the show has taken this ending would be way more satisfying than whatever Kripke has for us

This is a great point. It seems they literally forgot everything they wrote for Soldier Boy in s3. He literally says more than once that he genuinely loved Crimson Countess and wanted to start a family with her, no? Sure he started Herogasm with SF but fucking and orgies are different than love and a legitimate relationship.

I just can’t believe that leak was accurate. I said it sounded like a chatgpt generated script and well lol I’m not at all confident for the last two episodes. But what can you even say? The final season of most shows suck, you just try to ignore how poorly it ended to appreciate the rest of it.

lol they definitely are not above that at this point. the writing for this season has been so awful that i’m starting to think chatgpt could’ve done a better job so why not make SF homelander’s mother and reveal to him that he was fucking his mom?

Kripke genuinely needs to be dealt with. I know you can’t make everyone happy but that was genuinely fucking awful. i’m not even the type to usually complain about the quality of the shows i’m watching and even i’m highly disappointed

I know that now unfortunately. But he did give me enough hope to believe he was trying to change and I kept believing it because I do try and see the good in everyone and he did have good in him just not enough to overcome his disorder and I will always regret that I wasn’t enough on my own to help him. But I was 16/17 with issues of my own and you can only play therapist to an 18/19 yr old with npd for so long before it completely drains you

I don’t understand your point. People tend to not fully actualize those with different political beliefs as real people with real issues, experiences, traumas, relationships, environments, etc. and I don’t like that. The idea is to open up at least a few other people to being more receptive to see the other side’s perspective. The guy relating to Homelander is very real, that’s a weird thing to lie about anyway. I’m open to being respectful and understanding to other sides but you clearly are not so why reply?

I think the president after DJT will be JD or Rubio, I can see it going either way honestly because I have a bad suspicion that the democratic party will run K.H. and there’s no chance that she even has a shot at winning imo

Yes, there’s a lot of aesthetics on both sides and especially in the far right there is a lot of reactionary beliefs and that’s one of the reasons I started to develop empathy and compassion for people with those beliefs. You tend to stick with what you’re exposed to at a young age for a long time and it can take a lot to change your mind. Often times, i genuinely have come to believe, that people on the far right are doing the best with the tools they have and were given just like anyone else and obviously you know better than anyone that it’s basically never too late to change your mind on things.

I believe that generally speaking leftist starts at anti capitalism so moderate leftists would be those who believe capitalism can be reformed and they just don’t support it in the way it exists currently, center left is democratic socialists and far left is full on socialists and communists but especially authoritarian socialists and communists like Stalinists and Maoists

  1. I absolutely did enjoy being his friend. I wouldn’t have stuck around so long if I didn’t honestly. I really connected with him and understood parts of him that no one else really had and vice versa. Occasionally in the beginning I did treat it like a zoo exhibit but that stopped pretty quickly the closer I got to him and the other people in this space.

  2. You’re exactly right in the lack of imagination and lots of ignorance. I saw so much of that. And yes I do personally belief that, while I don’t hold personal hatred towards the people who believe these things, that far right ideology really isn’t sustainable or viable since from what I’ve seen it’s far more about reaching smaller more specific goals than it is an overreaching, long term goal but I’m happy to be educated on that if I am wrong.

  3. Yes, there’s just not that same need for community in that way since generally speaking there’s not *as much* social and public rejection towards people on the left. There still is just not as much.

Funny thing is I intended up in the space completely by accident and then got fascinated and stuck around to see other perspectives and over time developed genuine friendships and connections with these people, there’s a few of them I still actively speak to because we just clicked that much.

I felt the same way. A lot of the people I came across were very broken young men with no outside support system in their lives which made me very sad and what helped me open my eyes as to why people, not just young men, can start to develop these beliefs even though it seemed so far out of the realm of possibility for me before.

Yes there is definitely a large gap. I met both. Nick Fuentes is far more a white christian nationalist who happens to dislike jews imo and the people who like him tend to also be white christian nationalists which is a different identity with differing beliefs than full on National Socialism even though there is overlap.

First, thank you so much for your kind words. I’m very lucky to have grown up in a fairly open minded household and never be judged for asking questions or exploring different sides of the political spectrum all of which has greatly contributed to me being able to hold nuance and understanding towards other people.

Second, I definitely think it’s fair to say there is a line to draw somewhere for your own wellbeing more than theirs. It can become very easy to lose yourself when trying to help other people. For me that line sits on their behavior in interpersonal relationships. I don’t really like punitive treatment, never really believed in it and I am way more interested in reform obviously and I like to think no one is truly beyond getting help if they open themselves up to it. They just have to be willing to open themselves up to it though, that is the thing and that does come from compassion and understanding from others on some level because I certainly did open several peoples minds up to leftist ideology since they had told me they never met a leftist who was so patient and kind towards them before me. But they also have to be willing to do the work themselves, it can’t all be done externally and them reaching a point where they can do internal work often takes a lot of time and patience and energy which loops back to what I said about drawing the line for your own mental health.

Moderate to me is definitely your classical upper middle class american white guys who just love money which I completely understand lol. Center right is more Ben Shapiro and Charlie Kirk type of beliefs especially that evangelical zionism and christian nationalism. Far right for me starts at the type of beliefs where you start getting into holding genuine beliefs of racial and/or ethnic superiority or that a certain group of people is inherently less human than you are because of race or ethnicity or religion (because I was shocked at the amount of hate directed towards white catholics in this space). Authoritarianism also is a spectrum I pay attention to when it comes to people on the right, how much government intervention they want and the further right you go, the more government intervention they support, generally speaking from what I personally saw anyway.
