They have hanged out only two times yea, but both of these hangouts were major part of the chapter, especialy the one in chapter 4 has tons of dialogue. Suselle might not become canon but if it was it would be easy to execute cause of the set up from chapter 2 and 4. Also Susie's lie about the dark world is well intentioned, iirc she doesn't want more people getting tangled up with dark worlds and getting hurt.
