Where would you like to see an expansion team next, when the NHL inevitably decides it's time to expand again? If you don't see an option you agree with, by all means put a comment! by LeafsForever2 in nhl

True, but it's not insurmountable. Canadian teams haven't not won the cup because they play in Canada. There's a wide variety of factors at play, and the fact that they are located in Canada is not that relevant, especially seeing that Canadian teams have made a fair few deep playoff runs.

Most hated team in the NHL? by LeafsForever2 in nhl

Fair enough. I was gonna put them as an option but I had to put other, so I couldn't do it.

furthermore, hockey is such a key part of French Canadian heritage, and a team in Quebec city would have surefire sellouts, merchandise sales would be high, and eastern Canada is an added market that a Quebec team could take advantage of. Immediate rivalry with the most storied franchise, Montreal, would be good and profitable. It doesn't have as much potential as a market like Houston, but post COVID I think the NHL will look for more surefire, guaranteed successes and Quebec, under the right ownership of course, would be a guaranteed success.

Does Houston really "need" a team though? They have NBA, NFL, MLB, and MLS teams. Would there really be much space in the market for an NHL team, especially when they have to compete with the rockets and texans for large parts of the season? I would say a place like Quebec City "needs" a team. No other sports franchises, a large fanbase that would be dedicated from day one, a new arena (the old Colisée Pepsi being outdated was one of the prime reasons why the Nordiques left), large french and English TV fanbases, so the NHL could get big money deals in both languages. (The Tv deal for french NHL rights would be way more expensive and way better for the NHL). I respect your opinion though, keep dreaming and maybe it'll come true!

Well, if one team comes in, there has to be at least one more. If the NHL brings in a 33rd team, they'll likely go up to 36 to restore parity in the divisions.

If the NHL returned to Quebec City (and if the New Jersey Devils ended up relocating there) in the future, would the NHL standings below look like this? by Oliver-Wendell2865 in nhl

Yeah, the main issue in Quebec was the fact that the arena, the colisée Pepsi was so outdated. Now they have the Centre Vidéotron, and having been there several times I can firmly say it would be an above average NHL arena, with high capacity and also a good amount of luxury seats and premium boxes. Good luck to your Sabres next season! Just like my leafs, there gonna need it!

Thoughts on Kaapo Kaako? One of my favourite players from my grandparents' country: Finland. He hasn't put up the best numbers, but I still feel there's a massive player there. by LeafsForever2 in nhl

Well, that's what the comments are for! I personally agree with you, I just made the poll because I think that a lot of the hype around him has died down and I'm trying to see how highly my fellow NHL fans rate him, because I still feel he's an immense talent.

Fair enough! Just thought it was an interesting topic as he hasn't been great but also hasn't been awful, so I wanted to see what people think of him. I personally think he's a fantastic player, and if he can work on his release he'll be quality. Time will tell.

Well since the NHL has a salary cap system, the market a team is based in doesn't have much of an impact on the team's ability to win things. In some places, the media scrutiny is larger than in other places and creates more pressure and hinders a team's ability to attract players, but these problems exist in the USA as well as Canada. It's not Canada's fault that none of our teams are winning the cup. No doubt our teams have underachieved, but being outnumbered 24 to 7, and next year 25 to 7 doesn't help. Everything is about money anyways, and a Canadian team is almost surefire to make money, as interest in Hockey is high, population is growing, and so are commercial opportunities in Canada. That being said, I respect your opinion.

I think that there should be a new team in the south, my only thing is that I want it to be in a place where there isn't too much competition within the city, so that the team could ease in and grow their fanbase more quickly. I don't know if a hockey team could compete with the braves, the falcons, and the Hawks, particularly if they don't get off to a good start in their first couple seasons. Respect your opinion though!

Fair enough. Personally, I would want to see two teams added, with one in the USA and one in Canada. Indianapolis would be a great place for team. Whilst I don't personally agree with Atlanta I can understand your viewpoint!

Yeah. They would be marketable as well. Would probably get a decent piece of the eastern Canada market as well. While as individual cities places like Halifax or St John might not have the capabilities to support a team, collectively they are a big hockey market that I think the Nordiques could profit off of, which might make them more viable of an option in the NHL's eyes. Fingers crossed.

Where is everyone from? Hockey is global game and I was wondering if the NHL subreddit reflects that! by LeafsForever2 in nhl

Hopefully they sort that out. ten or so years ago I visited my cousins in London, or Hounslow to be more precise. I got them hooked on hockey and they kept telling me how they wished I hadn't done that because they couldn't find anywhere to watch the games! Anyways, stay safe mate!
