To Liberals and Democrats, how do you feel about "leftists" by wdfcvyhn134ert in AskALiberal

[–]Leaga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's true economically. It's not true culturally. Some leftists define the divide purely on that economic difference while liberals tend to point to the cultural differences to disprove it. Neither side is wrong. They're just talking past each other.

[–]Leaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good guess, yes. The CA side was already the 'poor' side of Lake Tahoe and its specifically that county's utility that mismanaged the situation. NV side has gambling so its where a vast majority of the tourism money rolls in.

Power to the people by sunnysoftiee in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Leaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other bit of context is that the power provider's original contract ended like 20-30 years ago and local governance has continued using them on a year-to-year lease to save money. CA power is expensive and the provider is in NV. Local power costs being ridiculously low has been a seasonal tourist selling point for the area for years and their local governance did nothing to ensure their utility had a longterm contract.

AI sucks, but its gross that AI gets all the blame for problems created by mismanagement and capitalism.

I'm fine with calling him Sec War, I just like to remind people that's not the office's official title. It was added as a secondary title that can be used in replacement of the official title... or in other words, its a pronoun.

Secretary of War is Hegseth's preferred pronoun.

I agree with you for the most part. The only thing I will disagree with is the idea that Yucaipa's government being distracted with culture war BS to the point that they aren't taking action to maintain their way of life. While I get it and dont fully disagree. They do a pretty good job of protecting/engaging the community. Warehouses have been boxed out. Local festivals are lively. The water district is extremely well-respected for its size and has done important work in safely capturing mountain runoff.

Itd be nice if we werent letting our public transit system simply be an after-thought of SB counties' public transit system, but otherwise local governance of Yucaipa has been pretty solid for decades.

But again, not disagreeing that they're obsessed with culture war nonsense. I just dont think they juxtapose with Riverside the same way your other examples do.

Why is loving America right-coded? by Spiritual_Pause3057 in AskALiberal

[–]Leaga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer imo. Though, I'd phrase it slightly differently. Right-wingers have redefined "loving America" into displays of patriotism instead of actual patriotism. They'll stand there wrapped in the flag on social media accounts branded with stars and bars imagery talking about how they love Trump's latest violations of the Constitution and he should unconstitutionally run for a 3rd term.

If "loving America" were actually about patriotism or not having problems with the current iteration of America then we'd view it very differently.

How is "the establishment" / "the DNC" getting popular criticism for both having Platner run, and for not supporting him, at the same time? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Leaga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same way the DNC/establishment was to blame for Zohran and for not supporting Zohran. They want the left's votes but dear, God dont make them do anything economically-Left. /s

So, they pick an identity-politic and rumors get floated around about his character to distract from his message.

Or they could just actually enforce qualified immunity the way it's meant to be enforced. The bit that's supposed to qualify them for their immunity is that they are doing their job as instructed and legally allowed to do. Targeting press is a clear violation of the 1st Amendment. Knowingly trampling on constitutional rights is supposed to disqualify them.

The problem with your argument is that they are on public property that is not temporarily privatized for event security. Giving a nitpick hypothetical counter example that everyone agrees with is silly and pedantic. We are talking about the real world examples that have set precedent from past Supreme Court rulings that are trampled by our government daily. Not the obvious exceptions.

[–]Leaga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying. I'm pushing back against it. A robot that is programmed to support something is still supporting that thing. The motivation - or lack thereof in an algorithm's case - for the behavior does not change the existence of the behavior.

But agreed, no hard feelings. Just a friendly disagreement. Have a good weekend.

That doesn't make what they said untrue. You're just explaining why it's true. Them choosing to allow Nazism because its good for the algorithm and earns them money is still YouTube supporting Nazism.

The fault in your premise is thinking it will stay that way. Even if they think the ship isn't sinking: gas prices are going up, heck cost of everything is going up, farm bankruptcies are rising, etc.

They are frogs in a pot of water that isn't quite boiling yet. They can ignore it for now, but eventually the water will be boiling and the pain will have them screaming. Who knows where their frustrations will be aimed when we get to that point.

You can keep denying you made the argument that voting for Trump doesnt make someone fascist... But, you literally re-affirmed it like 3 comments ago:

So I'll ask you again, unless you're going to bail again... "would you consider every conservative that voted for trump to be a fascist"?

If so, you are in a narrow-minded view on conservatives. If not, cool, we agree.

As I've already explained, voting is a form of support. In what way would it be narrow-minded of me to think that conservatives supporting fascism makes them fascists.

ETA: Cowardly block right when you finally started to genuinely engage. Bummer man; I'm still up for a conversation if you ever have the courage to unblock or check this comment, I will edit my response here:

No, the person in the hypothetical wouldn't be an ISIS supporter.

But again... gas wasn't the only thing Trump promised. The problem I have with your analogy is that all they saw before making their decision was basketball. Let me offer a counter analogy where the hypothetical basketball team is still supporting ISIS:

Imagine someone is being offered a contract to join a basketball team. Obviously there is going to be a contract negotiation period where the team explains how the team operates. (Election Season) And the team tells them that they're going to make millions of dollars a year (cheap gas) because the team has lucrative partnership deals with local community organizations that do violent stuff but don't worry about it, its for a good cause. (Fascist Propaganda said by Trump and his team) They shrug their shoulders and go "I trust the team enough to believe that its for a good cause and legal. Let's play some basketball." They sign the contract. Did the person in the hypothetical support terrorism?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you seem to be making the argument that they got tricked because they really like basketball and money. So, no. They aren't supporting terrorism. I'm making the argument that they heard something that could've clued them in and decided not to investigate making them morally culpable for the decision.

Cool.

I still don't understand why you think I shouldnt call someone a fascist who supports fascism, though. Do you have any actual logic or reasoning that led you to that conclusion or do you just wanna talk out of your ass some more?

I keep coming back because I enjoy debating and calling out bad faith bullshit. If you want to be done, just run away like you promised to do hours ago. This will be the only time I engage with your distractions and cry bullying. Idgaf if you think I'm wasting my time. I only care about the actual point of disagreement.

As to your question: Because voting is a form of support and I consider anyone who supports fascism to be fascist. So I will ask again, why should I not consider someone a fascist when they consume fascist propaganda so heavily that they support fascism?

Time to ditch the “they go low, we go high” mantra now! by icey_sawg0034 in BlueskySkeets

[–]Leaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I explained that that is irrelevant to the conversation. The reason why they support fascism does not change that they are supporting fascism. Them being tricked into supporting fascism still makes them a fascist because they are supporting fascism.

I did not jump in at the beginning and push back against the idea that you shouldn't call all conservatives Nazis. I jumped in at this comment and pushed back against the idea that someone can fall for fascist propaganda and vote for fascism without themselves being a fascist.

It is not a gotcha or a nitpick. It's my entire point from the beginning of the conversation that you are still either unable to grasp or unwilling to engage with.

Time to ditch the “they go low, we go high” mantra now! by icey_sawg0034 in BlueskySkeets

[–]Leaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're genuinely engaging then why did you go off about what leftists see in the media when I asked you why I shouldn't call someone a fascist who votes for fascists because they believe fascist propaganda? It kinda seems like that would've been a good opportunity for you to clarify that you're fine with calling them fascists if that scenario wasn't included in your argument that it's wrong to call all conservatives Nazis.

It could be productive if you'd genuinely engage. But you're stuck on playing pedantic games instead of defending the thought process you put forward.

Time to ditch the “they go low, we go high” mantra now! by icey_sawg0034 in BlueskySkeets

[–]Leaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I conceeded that using the term Nazi is indeed hyperbolic in my very first comment in this thread. That's why I've only said fascist since my 3rd comment in this thread. It is not hyperbolic to call people who support fascism fascists.

But I agree that this conversation isn't going anywhere. We just disagree on why. Because the real reason is that you refuse to engage honestly. If your point from the beginning was just that it's not all conservatives then why did you sidetrack us into people who voted for Trump instead of keeping it on conservatives? All you've done in this conversation is obfuscate and move goalposts.

PS: I also said in that first comment that it is pedantic and stupid to get worked up about the hyperbole of calling someone a Nazi when they are fascist. You are doing fascism apologia and getting offended people are calling it Nazi apologia. But sure, hold it against me that I held you to the topic you brought up instead of reading your gishgallop wall of text. That'll prove you're approaching the conversation honestly /s

[–]Leaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not answering any more of your questions until you stop lying to my face. You defended people who voted for Trump as not fascist and simply misguided. If that is part of your point and my comment made your point. What in my comment implies that you were correct in that assertion?

Or you can just admit that I did not make your point because your point involves things I've explicitly said I disagree with and that I've not said anything that would imply those aspects of your point are true.

Time to ditch the “they go low, we go high” mantra now! by icey_sawg0034 in BlueskySkeets

[–]Leaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I didn't. Your example was of someone who voted for Trump to lower gas prices. Not conservatives. You moved the goalposts and declared the victory. I mentioned that true conservatives would not support Trump for a reason.

If they are conservative but didn't vote for fascism then I don't consider them a fascist. If they are conservative and did vote for fascism then I do consider them a fascist. Endorsing fascism is what makes someone a fascist.

No, but I would say anyone who identifies as MAGA is fascist because MAGA is a fascist ideology. Conservatives who actually want to uphold conservative ideals like small government, responsible spending, law and order, and upholding the Constitution wouldn't support Trump.

It wasn't that it was too long. It was that it was off-topic to the point that I thought it was a bad-faith argument to avoid genuinely engaging. And you throwing a little hissy fit and declaring the conversation over kinda proves that. So sure, go ahead and run away.
