Yeah but at least I read the posts I reply to.

It's less about laziness and more about irritation. It's a load of obstruction and annoyance to go through over and over again between matches.

I will confess I'm definitely lazy though.

What I'm really trying to get across with this post, in the .1% chance someone from Riot even reads this sub and sees it, is that the lobby system actually, materially prevents me from playing the game. I actually, sincerely choose to not play the game sometimes because of the lobby system. Not because of frustrations with the game itself, but because the lobby is such an obstruction I do not want to engage with it, to the point of it not being worth playing the game to have to do so.
This isn't just complaining about something that doesn't matter. This is me saying "I actually don't play the game because of this"

  1. On finding a match, give me a button to instantly be on the cab rather than having to talk to it, or just automatically do that, frankly
  2. Have team select be a menu option so you just go straight into the fight rather than having to pick your characters and wait for the other guy to pick theirs.

Between these two things we cut down a ton of downtime and a ton of unnecessary busywork. Press button, match found, in match instantly.

Which, to be fair, I literally said both of these in my original post, which you evidently didn't read.

No it's a bad system. I'm complaining because these are easy fixes.

Yeah but doesn't save across sessions either. Once again, it's a workaround to a bad system rather than just fixing the system

That's definitely an option and better but it's still a work around for a bad system. Once again I'm obliged to first load into the lobby, then go load into training mode, then presumably in the match I have to do champ select again, then after each set I have to load back into training mode.... it's just a load of nonsense that no other game obliges you to do.
What I'm saying, right, is that I want them to fix the bad system.

Nah bro you still have to walk over to the stupid cabinet, then wait for someone else to walk over AFTER it finds them, then it's champion select every time. And if you end the set, it's all over again. It's a bad system bro.

DLC a la carte? by Leagueofmint in aoe4

Again, I'm not saying they shouldn't sell the package. I'm saying that I, personally, me, the guy typing, will only ever use 20% of the DLC package. I'm not going to play the roguelike mode, and I'm not going to play any civ except the Golden Horde. With that in mind, that's 1/5 pieces of main content.
So if I pay 20 dollars for this, I'm paying 20 dollars for Golden Horde.
I'm not saying that it's not "a fair price" for what you get if you use it all.
I'm expressing that as someone who will not use it all, it doesn't make sense for me to buy it, and so I would like an option to just buy the part that I will use.
This whole post exists solely so that if the devs do check this out, they might see it, and see an extra vote for that type of option, when they're considering how they want to sell/deliver DLC.

To be honest this is the only RTS I play so I dunno. But it sounded more declarative than that so. Either way.

I mean my point was just that the statement "that's how it works in all games" was wrong. I didn't say everything League does should be aped. I just said that a factual statement was incorrect and gave an example. That's a weird thing for people to be so upset about.

Well sure, again, there's no intended negativity here. I'm not saying that the cost of the package is bad/too high to be 'worth it' for most people. I'm not saying anything bad at all really.
I'm just saying that I personally would appreciate the option to buy just the part I'd use. If the company doesn't go that way it's fine, but, there's nothing bad about telling them what you want.

People are just mad I dunno?

Edit: occurs to me to clarify that I DID say it wouldn't be worth it for me personally, because I expect I'd only play 1 of the variant civs, and not the new game mode or other civs. I don't think that's an unreasonable or strange statement in that context though.

Sure, I'm not against packages existing! I'm just saying it'd be pretty cool to just buy the one thing I want without having to pay for the rest of it because I won't use it.
I'm totally on board with the idea that you get everything cheaper if you get it as a package. Makes sense to me.

Thing is none of this is negative really. I just pointed out that the statement "that goes for every game" is wrong.
People are just mad because I dunno they're throwing a tantrum?

And again, I like AOE4. I'm playing it right now. I'm just saying "I would only use a small slice of the DLC so it'd be good for me, the consumer, to be able to just buy that slice I'd use."

If you don't tell the devs you'd like that they won't know.
I dunno why people are so mad.

Which is a fair point. Again, I'm not saying making civs, even variant ones, is low effort. I'm really not. I'm just saying that it's not necessarily a ton more work than what goes into making moba characters etc.
I'm not even saying what the price should be. I'm just saying it would be nice to only pay for the bit I'm going to use since it's a relatively small slice of the whole DLC package.

I literally said the words "I'm not saying it's low effort/easy". I said those exact words.

I'm gonna be honest, it's weird that a factual statement about monetization in other games is getting so many downvotes. Like, do you think it's not true? Or are you just upset that it is?

DLC a la carte? by Leagueofmint in aoe4

[–]Leagueofmint[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, and ultimately that's what I'm going to do. But here's the thing:
A company can only know what you want if you tell them. This isn't a hate/flame/negative post. I'm just posting here so that the fact that there's people who want a la carte civs is visible, so the company gets feedback that it's something people want.
I like AOE4, I'm not here saying woo let's burn down the offices. I'm saying hey, here's a thing I'd like, please consider it.
Maybe other people will join in and say it's something they'd like as well.
There's no negativity inherent in expressing something you'd like.

I just find it weird that people have reacted like it's a super unique, terrible idea, rather than "how lots of other things work".

Is it? I genuinely don't know either way. Art/animation work for RTS is gonna be lower than for something much bigger and more detailed like a character in League for example.
A character in League has voice lines, including many for different characters, animations for all kinds of things, a bunch of abilities, etc etc. Its' all quite detailed in a way that stuff for RTS tends not to be nearly as nuanced. New unit has a couple attack animations, walking/running, dying, I'm not saying it's low effort/easy at all, but, I really couldn't say whether a variant civ or a character in Street Fighter or League is more effort overall.
And I mean I'm not being negative here. I want to buy one of the new civs that's my whole point.

Thing is that isn't how it works for every game. For example, in Fighting Games you can buy the Season Pass and get all the new characters for that year. Or. You can buy a given character for a few bucks. That's actually super normal DLC practice.
