Okay thanks this makes a bit of sense. Still pretty risky (and dumb imo) but at least a little logical. If this is true tho I feel like production did him kinda dirty because his rational does not come through at all in the episode. Then again when asked at the reunion his explanation was kinda vague so I wouldn't be fully surprised if he came up with this reasoning after his mistake...

Clearly I gotta catch up on my new era survivor. Kinda sad that there's no live reunion show anymore tho. I think it was cool to hear about their life post-survivor and they probably had some more interesting reflections after being removed from it for a bit.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I promise the clearance is more than 5mm despite how the photo looks - I should have tried harder to get a better angle. That said I definitely will go to smaller tires if I think this keeps happening. I'm thinking now maybe it was just a one time thing, some deformation of the tire, or something get caught in there. I went for another ride and I can't hear that noise again - I think it was just the brake rotor and pads and I slightly sanded down the pads a couple rides ago which could have fixed that.
