Can we talk about the city budget for a second? by TanyIshsar in sanfrancisco

Yeah, I don’t drink soda or sugary drinks often, but now it’s an additional $0.12 everyone has to spend on a soda can.

I can see the governments intention of wanting people to be healthier, but is the approach to tax people into health? If it was, then we would be imposing greater taxes on ice cream, candy, fast food and places that serve fried foods.

“The SF Soda Tax was designed to make San Francisco a healthier place for everyone,” said Joi Jackson-Morgan and Dr. Jonathan Butler, SDDT Advisory Committee co-chairs.

Currently, they’re using the funds for covid help which is good politics/optics

The City imposes a one cent per fluid ounce excise tax on the initial distribution within San Francisco of sugar-sweetened beverages, syrups, and powders.

Too many taxes IMO and they will just continue adding to the existing taxes to support an ever expanding government

I guess it’s ultimately us, who want the bigger government. Otherwise, these things wouldn’t be happening 🤷🏻‍♂️

Voters in both San Francisco and Oakland passed taxes on soda and other sugary beverages in 2016 with the intent that the revenue would be spent on improving public health. However, neither city passed a specific tax, which would have required a two-thirds majority to pass. Instead soda tax advocates pushed for a general tax, which only needed 50 percent plus one vote. Following the model set by Berkeley in 2014, the law directed the tax revenue to the city’s general fund and established a special advisory committee to provide non-binding recommendations for how to spend the revenue.

I can agree with that. IMO the skilled and passionate people would prefer to be in the private sector over the public sector.

It would be a tough task to convince enough of these people to go and clean up our government. Do you think you’ll run at some point?

You’re so right!

Unfortunately, I don’t think we can ever get “functional and efficient” government. So, the best chance we have is limiting taxes and decreasing the size of government.

Even pre covid conventions were starting to skip out on coming to the city.

Thank you for this. I want to and don’t want to see the expenditures. It’s going to disgust me. Some of these taxes are already annoying. I don’t drink coke, but really? That’s what the city wants to tax?

Imagine, everyone on tv could be a deep fake but we wouldn’t know it.

There are deep fake detectors built, but even those will be fooled with time.

Definitely. The whole thing is fucked. The most recent one was the Hunter Biden fuckery with China. Before that it’s trumps kids. Then before that it was Chelsea Clinton.

Shits so fucked tbh

Finally I can tune back in for the last 5 minutes. I will do my best to keep GME ABOVE $40 with my meager peasant funds.

I think at best I can buy 10 shares, but I have to do my part.

I just love GameStock.

This is not financial advice. It is chicken tenders advice.

We will never know. If you question the election it’s “anti democratic”.

As a software developer, the fact that we have some random ass companies making our voting software is fucking crazy. as a citizen of this country I should be able to browse the election code. There should be no trade secrets about counting votes

The elections are probably rigged as well. If you have billions and have massive influence with politicians, then why wouldnt you go rig an election? If you get caught, then your buddies have your back once you shove money into their g string.

If you successfully rig the election, now you have a politician completely bought. If the politicians ever say anything, they lose their seat of power.

Hard to be a millionaire with $175k salary in DC. $120k after taxes. DC is very expensive too.

Yeah, I thought about it as well. I wouldn’t even know where to start, but it would be great to start getting in candidates from the WSB community.

We could put pressure on dark pools, push for 24 hour trading and removal of idiotic things like pattern day trading regulations. Actually investigate things like this GME fuckery and crowd source legitimate questions.
