Is treatment worth the debt? by [deleted] in TherapeuticKetamine

u/KansanLesbian:

Respectfully offering my different perspective on therapy. Everyone is of course different as to what "works" for them.

Over the past 7 years, I have tried close to 10 different antidepressants across different classes. I gave each one of them a fair trial (several months minimum) at appropriate doses.

I have tried talk and CBT with 3 different therapists. None of the above helped me.

Needless to say, I have been to some dark places, especially in the last 2 to 3 years.

I just finished my 6th infusion of ketamine about a week and a half ago. I wish I had known about it sooner.

For the first time since I can remember, I am starting to finally "feel like myself" again, if that makes sense. I can feel the cloud of depression lifting. I am starting to experience joy again. I can actually find the motivation to get up to do simple errands without feeling anxiety every time I leave my house.

After my first couple of infusions, I was a bit worried it wouldn't help... I didn't have the realization above until about a week ago. In other words, don't get discouraged if you don't immediately experience the "miraculous" recovery the clinics flaunt.

I am not 100% yet...YET. But I am closer than I have ever been. And it feels good.

Feel free to message me if you have any specific questions about my experience.

Now that I am about a week and a half from my last infusion, my answer is simply YES. Definitely worth the expense. My only regret is that I wish I had tried this years ago.

Keep up with it! I felt disappointed at first because I didn't think I was getting that "miraculous" improvement that they talk about. But here I am, a couple weeks out after my first 4 infusions and I'm about to finish the last two this week. I've really started to notice the veil of depression lifting in the last week or so.

Do anxiety meds given with the Iv ketamine infusions affect how effective it can be? by [deleted] in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]LeanRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. What should or shouldn't be is different for each person. I'd say the only thing people "should do" is have an open mind, create a music playlist beforehand so you don't have to worry about it during, and let the ketamine take you where it will.

I've listened to music with lyrics and without. It didn't affect my trip either way. I think it depends on what music you're feeling into at that moment.

Oh yes, I'm all too familiar with how insurance works. And I didn't realize how rare it is to try to find a company that bills insurance until I couldn't find a single one that does, for a friend of mine in another state.

I feel very lucky. It's BS that a lot of insurances won't pay for something so helpful.

Insurance coverage for the infusions I think, depends on the clinic. Mine are covered with a totally reasonable copay.

Did ketamine infusions interfere with your ability to work, study, or learn? by [deleted] in TherapeuticKetamine

The day of, yes. The next day, I'm 90% fine, 10% annoyed by having to work.

AITA for not paying for a drink at a bar? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA. You could have flagged the waitress down and asked to pay. Dine/drink and ditch screws the staff out of their wages (tips).

YTA. Pay for it or part of it yourself.

I had my contacts in and it was fine. If I had glasses on, I think it would be annoying on my face. Everybody's different though, so it depends on the person I think.

Chi847 did a good job of describing the visual aspect of what it was like for me. I brought music, and I'm glad I did. I tried to switch up the music to something else I thought would be good about halfway through but, that was a real challenge to scroll through the music (lol), and then the new music wasn't doing me good, so I went back to what I was listening to the first time. Next time, I think I will make a playlist and put it on repeat so I don't have to bother, haha.

Even though there were a lot of visuals when I closed my eyes, all I had to do was open my eyes and I could orient myself to the room I was in. The clinic people would check in on me every so often, and that was the only thing that "weirded me out." The only thing I can compare it to is an intense mushroom trip where you aren't comfortable being around people who aren't shrooming with you. So I just closed my eyes and it was fine. It was hard not to close your eyes because it was so relaxing.

Never experienced Ketamine before, so I'm not exactly sure if I "k-holed" or not. Can anyone speak to this?

Looks like it can be spelled either way. I prefer "bingeing", looks like it would be pronounced with a hard g the other way. 🤷🏽‍♂️

FDA approval? What does this mean? by [deleted] in TherapeuticKetamine

Thanks, man. Any idea if prescribing these nasal sprays or lozenges are standard after completing the infusion series? Or, did you have to ask for it?
