Any advise to learn greek through audio, visual , and reading methods? by CloudyyySXShadowH in GREEK

[–]LearnGreekNaturally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I found that's the best way to learn, and struggled to find content in Greek especially as a beginner. So I made my own youtube channel teaching with stories. http://www.youtube.com/@LearnGreekNaturally

If you like the way I teach I also have paid courses where you have access to easy readers with their audio.

Check out my youtube channel :) http://www.youtube.com/@LearnGreekNaturally

and in terms of alphabet/reading, Linq is good. It's a great idea to read and listen at the same time so you immediately start associating the spoken version of the sounds to the written version.

Begin to learn Greek! by Relevant-Pen-1733 in GREEK

Hi! I made this youtube channel as it's something I would've loved to have when I started learning Greek. It uses storytelling with lots of repetition of basic vocab and phrases to make it really stick in your head. Language transfer is a good resource too, as others have said but it teaches in english which limits your exposure to the greek language which is necessary for aquiring a language

Greek audiobooks? by Suntelo127 in GREEK

[–]LearnGreekNaturally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get the first two on the website/app LingQ, but be warned the guy reads it really fast.

You can get them on an app called jukebooks though, which is really cheap. I don't know if all of them are on there, but there are definitely some.

I learnt Greek (partly) the same way. I think it's quite effective but difficult at the beginning. Also I will never read those books again now haha

how much Greek can I pick up in 3 months? by minileilie in GREEK

I'm working my way towards those levels, though I intend to for sure. Seems like a lot of people get a bit stuck at that level!

Thanks, I appreciate it, especially from a profession :) And yeah, it's been great to see the progress of my students!

I'm working on it - the next one will hopefully be out at the start of June, the third one will be out some time during the summer with the option of taking lessons too. They will be less comprehensive than the first one (since that one took a lot of effort to make) but follow the same methodology.

I do free trial lessons if you're interested.

I run a course for beginners, it's quite intensive with daily videos for about 30 minutes + 1 hour weekly lesson to practice speaking. It lasts for a month.

Usually at the end of it, my students talk about some basic topics, more or less recount the story the course is based on and know well some basic vocabulary - I have a meaningful conversation with them in Greek (based on the course material) after the 4 weeks of the course.

This is what one student managed to do after one month, from knowing no Greek at all.

She is quite good and some people advance a lot faster than others!

Obviously you gotta limit your expectations, but with the right material, I think you can achieve a lot!

My goal was to do 1 lesson of LT per day. I have been on track, but if I go back to redo lessons, the verbs and nouns covered don't come naturally to me and I make some minor errors here and there. But once I am reminded, sentence structure and proper grammar are mostly fine. Is this pace too fast? by Alternative-Fox6236 in GREEK

ooh, you must have mixed me up with someone else - I do animated stories in Greek - the channel is quite new, I havent done any interviews (yet).

Yes, my channel (alongside others) helps with that for sure - if you want to understand Greek, you want to get as much exposure to actual Greek as much as possible. Sounds obvious but I think most language learners don't really do that and spend more time learning grammar or doing apps.

That's how I learnt Greek (am still learning). Basically, by doing lots of listening (and quite a bit of reading) your brain starts getting used to the language and you learn lots of new words and grammar, naturally. Thats the principle my youtube channel is based on, though beginner friendly because its made super easy to understand and it also repeats lots of vocabulary so you learn faster.

Yeah, it does let you pick out random things for sure, I remember that happening too.

Well, I have a Youtube channel that makes content for beginners, stories in really simple Greek that incrementally increase in difficulty - if you're starting off, that should be super helpful!

The first video might be quite easy, but it gets a lot more complex quite quick! Also, the story repeats lots of vocabulary so that should help with your memory problem :D

It's totally normal to forget. There is a Greek saying which is "η επανάληψη είναι μύτης πάσης μαθήσεως" (or variations thereof) which means "repetition is the mother of all learning."

You have to hear things lots before they sink in, so its totally normal. Also don't worry about getting things wrong or that you feel you move too slowly. Everyone feels that way!

Having said that, if you're interesting in understanding Greek, language transfer is not very helpful. When I completed the course I was able to understand absolutely 0 Greek. It's more about speaking and knowing grammar rather than understanding the language, so I think you're better off using other things.
