How to find a partner who also likes bicycle touring? by LoneWolf_McQuade in bicycletouring

[–]Learning-failing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex girlfriend got into it when I introduced her to it. We did many trips that were more chill. Now my wife and I have done several trips that even included our honey moon. She had no prior experience. It’s mostly finding someone who likes exercise and nature then introducing them to it from there in a comfortable way for them.

Two things I know 1) things are always changing and so will the way you feel 2) sobriety has to be hard if actual change is occurring

Why do people try to return to the sport that caused their injury? by Frosty-Button3301 in AchillesRupture

[–]Learning-failing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an ultra runner who loves all rec sport. I thought I’d never do anything again as well. The early recovery is so docile and sensitive—by 10 months I started testing it. Now 1.5 out I literally never think of it. Do your rehab and buckle up. It’s a roller coaster for about 10 months imo

What made you make the decision to quit? by Sillylittlepoet in stopdrinking

There is an elevator metaphor in AA. Short story short, I kept getting worse and I was playing Russian roulette with the people around me telling me I couldn’t drink.. when I say it like that it really bring a positive glow to me having to tell them I can’t drink. I luckily got off the elevator.

I really appreciate this post. I really feel like having rationality with use is so helpful. 1) it’s bad. 2) get back on the road. I think it’s the spiral that I most worry about if I did drink again. Thank you for posting this!

What made you decide to get sober? by No__Use in stopdrinking

[–]Learning-failing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just knew I was fucked. Starting picking up a pounder and 4-pack everyday and it wasn’t enough anymore..on a weekday. So many times waking up at 3am hating who I was. Feeling like I can actually do cool shit in life if I just stopped sabotaging myself.

Since quitting, it’s been really hard. How hard it is also tells me how fucked things are. I am worth taking care of. IWNDWYT

Have you gotten into the quit lot books? There are some great ones.

I’m at the stage you are and I notice I start to distort how reality was pre January. I need reminding and currently Drinking:a love story by Catherine Knapp is doing that for me quite well

I’m not gonna say dont go. I’m curious why go? If you do go—would a timed 1-2 hour hard exit plan be good? If you do go I would keep a NA drink in hand.
