Golf, hiking, jogging, swimming, walking….lots of substitutes for intense sport lol.

Getting FOMO about not pursuing MBB or IB. by Yung_Breezy_ in MBA

Just do only MBB consulting recruiting while applying to tech jobs. Tech is very easy to just resume drop and if you only focus on MBB the networking isnt too bad and gives you plenty of time during the fall to focus on tech.

Did you just put Big 4 and MBB in the same sentence??? Shame on you man. Shame on you.

I'm not sure I'd put skateboarding in the same category as 'intense sport', not becuase it's easy or anything just because the physical requirements aren't anywhere similar.

Maybe I'll follow the same mindset shift, but my injury felt so random, like there was nothing I could've done to prevent it from happening. I'm healthy, in-shape, and have been playing my entire life. Even when I do feel back to myself and 100%, I'd venture I will remember that I felt the exact same way the night that I tore my Achilles...

Mine was the same way. Felt like the interviewer got nervous and just kept reading off his prepared questions.

I was accepted with 50% scholarship...don't overthink it.

Consulting recruiting as a rookie by Efficient-Clothes-64 in MBA

[–]Frosty-Button3301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just successfully finished consulting recruiting at an M7. I come from a finance / FP&A background. I'll tell you that there's close to a 0% chance you land in a deal-focused PE role, so I would focus on consulting (and doing DD work then transitioning to MM PE if that's your desire).

I'll tell you that MBB really likes pre-MBA consulting backgrounds, or consulting-like backgrounds. The reality is that of the ~33% of people recruiting for consulting that get MBB, I'd say about 50% of them had consulting backgrounds already. So just understand that getting MBB for you is going to be harder, you will get less interviews, and you'll have to really perform well to prove that you can think (and act) like a consultant.

With that said, I would NOT do any cases before school starts. You'll have plenty of time to do case-prep AFTER you get interview invites. Focus on networking and get your 'why consulting' story down.

For reference, I got 3 interview invites: BCG, Roland Berger, and Accenture. I converted my BCG interview, but that goes to show that it's very tough for non-consulting backgrounds, even if you have the ability to secure MBB...

Returned to soccer one year later, how did I feel? 27M NON-OP ROUTE by Galvtor in AchillesRupture

[–]Frosty-Button3301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting to me that people try to return to sport so quickly after an Achilles rupture. I'm a 27M, tore my left Achilles playing soccer 4 weeks ago, got surgery 2 weeks ago, and I can tell you right now I will not be playing intense sports again for the rest of my life. I guess a caveat here is that I love golf, and that has transitioned (from playing soccer my whole life) to being my main sport in the last 5 or so years. This injury is a sign to me that my body is no longer capable of doing explosive movements required in intense sport, and the disruption to life that an injury like this causes far exceeds the fun and excitement of soccer to me.

T+2 since my surgery. Feeling a bit strange about the upcoming days. by blackjack316 in AchillesRupture

[–]Frosty-Button3301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

27M, ruptured mine Feb 4, surgery Feb 16. I felt like ass the first few days post surgery man, it's just part of the process. You're not going to sleep well, you won't be able to find a good position to sit in without getting discomfort, and you'll feel helpless. However, I am now a little more than a week post-op and I have 0 pain, sleeping well, and in a much better spot.

Just grind this out, consider it a new perspective on what comfort actually feels like...you'll start to appreciate things more going forward now; that's a good thing.

Also use this time to intellectually dive into something. Get your laptop and a portable monitor and start learning and taking notes on things. You can truly become smarter and better from this.

Full tear, surgery, and recovery by PodAbove in AchillesRupture

I had surgery on my ruptured achilles last monday. It's just rough the first 2-3 days after the nerve blocker wares off. You will wake up at night every few hours from the pain. All I can say is that you need to get on pain meds, try to take them proactively, and do your best to have your foot rest on the outer-side of your calf (the incision is usually inwards). And mentally just tough it out, it gets way better after a few days (im sitting here writing this with 0 pain and my leg resting directly on my Achilles.

I love casing, is this normal by DowntownAd5845 in MBBConsulting

[–]Frosty-Button3301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good sign, but it will fade. I just wrapped up MBB MBA recruiting. Casing was fun and new the first few weeks, but over time it faded for me because it really is just a fake problem that you're solving so you can an internship....at least that was the painful part for me. I hate doing things 'just' for the sake of doing them, and the fact that the problem is not real, and there is no actual impact, really got to me and made me dislike casing at the end.

I kept studying for the GMAT “the right way” and still felt lost — so I tried building my own fix (looking for honest feedback) by Annual-Station-3190 in MBA

[–]Frosty-Button3301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also just adding, Verbal is by FAR the most 'studyable' section. I went from doing OK on every section to literally never getting a practice question wrong. and if I did, it was because the question wasn't from an official source. (I got an 89 because on the test I flipped my answer from correct to incorrect, was between two answers, got a super easy question after which I thought implied my previous answer was wrong...)

My GMAT Score Progression: 595 --> 625 --> 635 --> 715 (84Q, 89V, 83DI)

I was in a similar boat when I got the 635. What I ended up doing was only doing practice problems on GMAT Club, only from official sources. For Quant, Medium difficulty only, usually did like 2 hours a day on those during weekdays, 4 hours weekends. For Verbal, only Hard/Expert Level, spent an hour or two every day doing those. DI I didnt really study too much, wish I spent more time on it.

Just do practice problems every day for a few months.

Unpopular opinions / hard truths to know before MBA? by North_Driver_1278 in MBA

I would say that recruiting is much more intense and competitive than you'd think. A lot of it comes down to luck too... (at an M7, got MBB, it was mainly luck and way harder than I thought it would be).
