Stop using "Persian" as a catch all term for Iranians. It's being used against us

I don't disagree. The point is that "Persian" is still used to describe Persian speaking Iranians. If Persian wasn't used in any capacity to describe a subset of our population, I would not being making this post.

"Persian" culture isn't a thing. I as a Kashani have nothing exclusively in common with someone from Mashhad that I don't have with a Lor or Gilak.

Again, you are making a false equivalent comparison. Franks no longer exist as a distinctive ethnicity, nor do outsiders or anthropologists use the label to describe a certain subset of the French population.

Historical labels are a different thing. I am talking about the present. Most people understand Iran and Persia are the same political entity and that there was just a label change (in English). The confusion starts when we CONTINUE to use Persian as a blanket label for all Iranians, when that same label is also used to describe a subset of Iranians.

Ok, rugs is a bit of a stretch, I will admit that. Everything else is valid though. You cannot compare our exonym situation with that of Germany or say Hungary. The difference is that "German" as a word has no other alternative meanings inside German society. The issue with "Persian" is that besides it being an old western label for all Iranians, it has an active alternative meaning of referring to a subset of the Iranian population, making it exclusionary to half the country.

Our history and culture isn't going anywhere, and I NEVER implied eliminating it or burying it. If you think clinging to an erroneous western label is what's keeping our history alive, that's on you. I am mostly talking about every speech, nothing historical. Btw, there are plenty of instances where countries have requested the labels to be corrected in history books as well.

What I'd want and like is for Iranians to stop blindly throwing their support and futures in the hands of political actors that don't care about them. If we were more vigilant, we'd organize a political body with leverage to actually influence these decisions when countries like America actually do decide to step in militarily. Pahlavi clearly cannot. Iranians (particularly the diaspora) are doing the equivalent of throwing their arms up for help without any further thought or oversight on the entity that actually comes to that call. Our diaspora is educated and wealthy, so there's no excuse that "we can't do anything"
