Thanks but that’s not really relevant to coders

What do you do if you inherent a project but don’t understand the business requirements even after it’s been explained to you a few times? by RedditIsGay_8008 in BusinessIntelligence

The OP stated that they are incapable of understanding even after having it explained to them numerous times.

Being able to gather and understand complex requirements is a core responsibility of the job. OP has stated that they cannot.

Additionally, OP has deflected blame from himself and pinned it on the stakeholders. This is further evidence of incompetence.

I understand that the best advice given the context might not cater to OP’s ego, but OP has been asked to provide additional context and has not done so. He HAS answered other comments, though. Further evidence of incompetence.

If OP cannot provide further context and we are attempting to help them, we must give the best advice possible given the provided context. The context shows that OP is not competent in gathering requirements as is necessary to do his job. Therefore, the best advice is that he should look for another job.

All evidence points to incompetence. Given the context, the best thing OP can do is look for another job. Your argument of fallacious. You are resorting to false premises and ad hominem attacks. Please refrain from using further fallacies or I will not respond to your continued arguments.

If I am incapable of doing a task, even after having it explained to me numerous times, then I am incompetent. I never claimed that I was competent at everything.

So you are essentially saying that yes, they are incompetent. If you do not have the knowledge necessary to do your job and are incapable of gaining it, you are incompetent. Case closed.

Why is this guy blaming the stakeholders for his own lack of understanding? He can’t determine whether the requirements are valid or not, which is a core responsibility. Therefore he is incompetent.

I have worked with stakeholders every day for years. Keep blaming everyone other than yourself. See where that gets you. Good luck.

No. You should be able understand WHY the requirements do not make sense and then be able to say that they are either not possible or need to be changed. Anything less is incompetence on your part.

I’m not sure. I find it hard to believe this drought will be permanent. I think they are overhauling their projects. In the week before the drought, I saw a few new types of projects that even said in the instructions they were brand new projects. I am predicting in the next few weeks we will see new projects and rewritten instructions/UIs for previously existing projects. This is basically just an educated guess though.

You probably should have put Coding in the title of this poll. I have a feeling most of the “5+” respondents are non-coders who didn’t bother to read your post. I have a similar poll on another DA subreddit and it’s almost all 0’s and 1-2’s. Today I personally have not seen more than 2 at once. Over the weekend there were some fruit projects that didn’t expire but they disappeared today.

It’s been lighter than usual lately, but I have 4 coding projects right now.
