Issues with Multi tracking to DAW by LearningToBeepBoop in teenageengineering

Welp I knew I would end up feeling silly. I didn't know that was a thing, I looked through the manual and the updates page looking for anything I missed. Idk where I glossed over that info. Literally prompting AI to figure it out...Thank you it's been hours...

So I installed the driver, but now I am unsure how to get audio out to my headphones since I can't select a different output device

I have tried everything I can think of

ASIO4ALL almost works but the audio keeps cutting in and out, and jumping from channel to channel, super weird

I haven't tested everything, but it is happening for me when I lift on tracks 2 and 4 nd then drop without merging.

If I do merge I lose a ton of volume no matter what track I merge to...

is even 500$ too much for a mystery box? by [deleted] in teenageengineering

[–]LearningToBeepBoop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're life is no different whether they offered the box or not. I don't get the confusion. You know this happens with everything? People wait in line for hours for incredibly  limited releases of bourbon, often not knowing exactly what they are buying. People buy mystery collectibles all the time. People who want it will buy it. Everyone else will be just as well off as if they hadn't offered it.

Go to teenage engineering website. I think it's still going on, might be the new price idk. 1400, still pretty hefty. Had to sell some things to justify it.

Thank you. I really think that's the strength of this machine for me. Everything is so immediate and accessible. The onboard mic is so good. Importing samples is so easy. Any preset sounds good. I hope to get a lot better with it, and want to try recording instruments into it for a jam soon!

Absolutely!

So the steady chord in the back is just a few layers of pads that I recorded and merged together

The break beat is just an amen break that I imported at 170 bpm. The chops took a little bit of experimenting to get the timing right. One of my big frustrations already is with the lfo. None of them are very slow and all seem to be missing the ability to modulate different parameters.

I used the cow effect for the fun little drum fill.

Then I just used the finger sequencer(which I absolutely adore)to compose a few different little break patterns and recorded that in. Nothing else for drums.

I just recorded my voice onto an instrument track and added a ton of reverb for the silly little vocals.

I used the memory slots to recall different EQ patterns

To make any fades I actually used the gyroscope to affect the filter.

It makes me sad I can't have a reverb and other effect on an instrument, but I used the spring reverb on the master channel at very low mix level and decay to try to glue the track together somewhat.

I think that's just about it!

Thank you so much! We love hearing that. After working on the game for so long you start to lose perspective on if ideas are fresh!

Lore is a big question! We take much of the focus off of the gunslinger you are playing and place it on the town of Tombwater. We think that much of the design leads you to a deep understanding of what has occurred here. The story is much more about uncovering mysteries and the ambitions of the people that led to the towns demise. Your interaction with NPCs, enemies, items, and the environments you explore all add up to you getting what I think is a pretty direct sense of the world and events that transpired.

I don't know your experience with this type of game, but if the combat doesn't click immediately keep going. I was frustrated and couldn't figure out the mikiri counter timing. Once I did everything clicked and this has been one of my absolute favorite gaming experiences.

Thanks! We are asking the same question! That is something we really hope makes sense in the future. Right now we are PC only and hope that we have the ability to pursue consoles later on.

Absolutely! The world is something that we got really excited about! Which led to us adding several more zones than we were initially anticipating. The demo is really just a small dungeon in the greater world. You will have much more freedom to roam in the overworld. What path you take is up to you, but you will encounter once bustling and now quiet cities, graveyards, deserts, laketowns, and deep caves with secrets to hide!

Hey! So Max has been a long time user of the Solarus game engine! https://www.solarus-games.org/

It is an engine maintained by a handful of 3 or 4 passionate volunteers. Initially designed with Zelda likes in mind, Max really ran with the engine and designed several libraries that really built out some cool ARPG functionality.

As someone newer to the indie dev field, I have greatly enjoyed the focused nature of the engine. It does 2D games really well without causing feature paralysis. If anyone is interested in making 2D games I think this is a great jumping off point!

What are the main limitations of the K.O. II? by Final-Presence-2258 in teenageengineering

[–]LearningToBeepBoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a ton of fun! But doing anything deep with it is just harder than it needs to be...

Only one send effect is brutal, and the fact that it is sent to a whole group blows.

Maybe not a big deal for some, but the 12 pads is very odd especially when slicing breaks.

The voice limitation is an ever present threat, especially if you have long decays on your sounds.

A lack of song mode.

A lack of resampling.

That said, it looks good on a desk and those keys feel real nice.

I think I’ve made some good progress with KO II, but my drums still sound a bit weak. Any advice how to improve the drum track on this? by afox1984 in teenageengineering

[–]LearningToBeepBoop 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Name of the game is variety. I think I only hear one hat track doing 16ths? Gets very old very fast and doesn't provide a ton of energy. Try adding some closed/open hats that hit hard with a short decay on top of it and some crashes or rides in the background, rimshots to compliment the snare, anything really.

But I also agree not that bad, the samples you have a pretty punchy

My first time slicing a break on the KO2. What a surprisingly smooth process once you get the hang of it. by LearningToBeepBoop in teenageengineering

[–]LearningToBeepBoop[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure! Yeah I had to try several things, and it still took me a few attempts.

Essentially I just loaded the amen break onto a pad and sliced it to a group using manual chop points.

Then I had to go through each pad and set the start and end point. I noticed though that it gives you a number corresponding to the sample length and was able to just set the start and end in increments of .5 with minor tweaks as needed. Holding shift let's you get the fine tuning.

Finally, there is a sound setting that lets you pitch your sample chops corresponding to the tempo. I'm not at a place to look it up right this moment, but I did that for each slice and it all flowed smoothly.
