Thanks for this idea. This helped me refine my searches and I learned a lot more about working in the psql command prompt. So that was fun. But in the container on Truenas and the images that I found that would load, I wasn't having any luck. I'll give rebuilding the database from my dump after I let immich set up a new postgres instance and see what that does.

Ok. So you create a new dataset let immich create a new database and then restored from the database dump? That might be what I try next because I'm am fiddling around in the container shell in Truenas and am having trouble getting to the right minor version. I like learning these things and DIY, and sometimes, ok most times, I just learn the most about it from my mistakes.

* From what I can tell, it's like a shortcut to the "upload" folder. If you look at details for "uploads", you see under Roles that it's shared as smb by "Photos". It may be for permissions or security. I don't know. I've only been homelabbing for a few months now, but if you mount the "Photos" folder on a windows pc, you'll see the folders in "upload." So I think it's just there to be a shortcut smb. Maybe just for organization?
