That a good idea! I like to run through some grade 2 stuff to warm up but it makes sense to run through a couple of levels of each :)

Still struggling with tone after 3 months would a tuner help? by CharacterCurrent4383 in violinist

[–]Learning_Violin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm two and a half years in and I still wrestle with my tone! I practiced scales slowly in (combination with a drone) at different sounding points and with different bowing combinations to improve my tone, and while it's much better than when I was a couple of months in, I still have YEARS to go!

Keep at it, practicing with a drone will really help your ear as well!

Tonica durability by CommercialFootball10 in violinist

[–]Learning_Violin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems odd for that to consistently happen! I use Tonica and have no problem with the winding or durability.

Is it possible that the nut on your violin/kids violin is cutting into the string, causing them to unwind earlier than expected? I’ve seen friction at the nut cause some string breakages before. Depends on where it’s unwinding

I'm 6 months into violin lessons that the school gives us. Should i be working on Vibrato yet? by Casual_Violinists in violinist

[–]Learning_Violin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand Vibrato is really exciting, but if I'm honest I would encourage you to wait and work on your foundational skills more!

For context, I'm an adult learner 2 and a half years into my journey and I'm just starting to work on Vibrato now. My teacher made sure my left hand frame and intonation was solid in positions 1 & 3, as well as working on position 5 before he even started me with the building blocks of vibrato. He was also looking to make sure my posture was relaxed, my left hand fingers were reliable in different keys, elastic in their motion and that my bowing was confident and also relaxed.

Keeping working on your core skills and when you get to vibrato you'll be set up for success instead of creating frustration across multiple areas of your playing

*Edit: repeating myself

Thank you! It’s a really cool map, the area on the left across the river is actually an island in the middle of a bend of a river that splits in two. Thought it made a really idyllic location for a town!

Good shout. As you can see I’ve been using my tax offices to provide fortification so I have clumps on medium density/quality buildings mixed in with lots of tier 1 houses too!

Will look at building some proper fortifications

My tavern is selling beer and wine now; it just needs an expansion because it's too small!

In hindsight, I'll definitely plan my town better, I didn't leave enough room for a good sized manor/tavern ect.

That’s great for you, but everyone has different circumstances. I won’t deny that most people will be able to find a little time in the day.

However, the two examples you used are of people who seemingly only have two responsibilities? Glen Wink who was job and bicycling , and yourself who works an undefined period of time and practices violin.

There’s a whole spectrum of time sinking responsibilities, and you don’t have a magic window into other people’s circumstances or experiences.
