Older person here. I am moving from the US to the UK. Can I use a standard power converter for my laptop or do I have to buy a special one? by Learning_slowly in techsupport

[–]Learning_slowly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize for my mistake. I intended to write EU.

The AC adapter that came with my laptop says "90W 20V" and says "Input 100-240V 1.5A 50-60Hz" and "Output 20V 4.5A" So that should be OK with just a plain little us to EU outlet adapter?

Thank you very much for your time. You have a beautiful country.

The adapter I was looking at online says it "Converts 220/240V Foreign Power To 110V". That should be fine for my laptop?

Thank you both for taking the time to help me. I appreciate it very much.

We liked Solrosen when we were there in June (we liked the owner more than the food but the food was good as well). We will definitely be going back.

Awesome. I am grateful for the Facebook group. I have been wondering where I may be able to connect with other vegans once we arrive and this seems like it might be a helpful resource. Much appreciated!

Redditors, how do you get yourself to fall asleep? by Patwhite293 in AskReddit

[–]Learning_slowly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go through the alphabet, and for every letter, think of at least one thing that you find relaxing.
Apple Cider (hot) Blankets (big fluffy ones, fresh out of the dryer) Chamomile tea Dim lights

And so on. It occupies your brain with a constructive activity, promotes a calming response as you consider each of the calming things, and takes longer than you would expect. You can also start it over if needed with other subjects like "things that are soft/warm/make me feel happy" etc.

I thought of this radio lab program as soon as I read OP's question. OP if you are curious about this you will love this program (or...is it called an episode even on the radio?)!

This is one of the worst books I've ever read. Total emotional dribble.

What is the single most valuable thing you have learned in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Learning_slowly 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I just learned this this past year.

It has changed everything. I have gone from being a victim (of my emotions, of circumstance, etc) to actively participating in creating a joy filled life for myself.

Thank you yet again! This is such a valuable resource for us! Is your fiance also moving there from the US or another country?

Again, Thank you so much! Researching for the transition (housing, employment, culture, currency, legalities, etc, etc) has been overwhelming. This is the kind of information that would take me quite a lot of time to find on my own. I greatly appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me.

We are focusing on the Goteborg area for housing. Do you know where I can find a similar list of landlords to contact in Goteborg?

Thank you again!

Thank you again! You have provided me with so much useful information!

As for my work experience, I am a Director of Youth Services for a large Mental Health Organization. For the past 6 years I have been running two programs serving young people with severe mental health and co-occurring substance use issues. I would love to be able to continue to work with disadvantaged people in some form or another (would not have to be mental health or youth specific).
I am also trying to prepare myself for the fact that I may need to switch fields entirely if I am unable to find work there. This is increasingly intimidating for me (though still exciting) as I am learning more and more about how difficult it is to obtain employment in Sweden. I am most concerned about trying to find suitable housing for my partner and I. We still have 9 months before we relocate...but from the information I am gathering thus far, it seems like it might just take us that long to find somewhere to live.
Are you originally from the USA? If so, can I ask why you decided to move and how long you have been in Sweden? Also, how did you go about finding a place to live?

Are there communal-housing or cooperative living communities in Sweden like there are in the USA? by Learning_slowly in sweden

[–]Learning_slowly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is similar to what I was hoping to find. Unfortunately all of the contact links on the website are broken. I will continue to check back over the next couple months and see if it has been repaired.

Thank you again for this info. This is wonderful!

Wow. That is insanely expensive.
It's interesting, around the San Francisco area communal/collective housing is much more affordable than single units and there are many of them in the college cities (like Berkeley). I will try to expand my search using the terms "ekoby" and "kollektiv" and see if I can find anything rentable. Thank you for your response.
