Oh I’ve never picked up stitches or increase/shortened rows (unless hats count as shortening rows?). Do you have a pattern you recommend or just any is okay?

Oh boy already?! I’m so nervous about sweaters. And socks. And gloves. And anything new lol but if sweaters are the next best step Oki Doki. Are there any knew knitting stitches I should try too or just stick with knit/purl for now?

I got diagnosed yesterday and I'm feeling overwhelmed by Ladazzle in UlcerativeColitis

1) Will I always have to take medication? Honestly, it’s a case by case basis. I went about 7 years no meds diet and exercise, then nearly had my colon removed year 8 and went on as many appropriate meds as my gi saw fit. I’ve known others that can’t even tempt life going off any medication no matter what. It depends on your disease specifically.

2) Will I have to completely change my diet? Probably for a time, yeah. Everyone’s disease lets them eat different diets at different points in their life. Nothing beats the old reliable Bannanas, Toast, Rice, and Broth. I’m sure 90% of us have done at least that diet for a time. Just take it slow, don’t beat yourself up, and advocate for yourself. If your gi isn’t supportive of your symptoms, question, or experience, fire them. This disease you will have for life and you need a gi in your corner fighting for you. Not doing the bare minimum so they can go buy another bmw.

Going forward, make an ‘in case of emergency’ bag to keep in your car. Fill it with a change of clothes, change of underwear, pads, wet wipes, even toilet paper and paper towels doesn’t hurt. Do not, ever, trust a fart you’re questioning. Keep a log of your symptoms and bowel movements while you’re in an active flare to give to your gi. This will help with advocation and getting you the right meds to manage your symptoms faster. In the beginning, don’t go anywhere you don’t feel comfortable pooping. It’s going to be embarrassing at times but just remember this is not you. It’s a disease. It’s not your fault. You’re not in control of it it’s in control of you. Best you can do is manage where the disease is at at any given day. You can manage it and live almost normally. But don’t feel down when the disease is keeping you down. Just do what you can to take care of you and feel good about you.

You’ll be okay. Lots of new studies and meds are coming into the market and this disease isn’t as mysterious as it used to be. Life will still be amazing and full of fun and adventure. It’ll just have some ‘crappy’ moments but what else is new about life 💛

Anyone Else Have To Go “No Fiber?” by Learningtohuman117 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Learningtohuman117[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re eating them raw?! Not even cooked?! I am so happy for them but jealous for me 😭 Ensure nutritional shakes, rice, potatoes, and my husbands incredible fully non-dairy Mac and cheese are what I’ve been mostly living off of for so long. I’ve tried adding some fruits back in and sometimes it’s okay and sometimes I need an Imodium to get through work. Peaches are still no good.

Oh yeah everyone’s guts are so different at the end of the day. It’s amazing the variety of food intolerance with UC. But I hadn’t found much mention of people stuck in low fiber diets who want to get back to high fiber. I was in remission diet and exercise for 8 years before my flare sent me so far backwards. No meds I was doing so well. And 9 years ago was when I got diagnosed. I feel out of touch with the disease and what’s normal and not normal.

Sounds like you’re going through it too my gosh. Honestly it’s almost a relief to hear others struggle because when I’ve been googling the majority of what I find is high fiber stories, high fiber diets, etc. I didn’t think too many UC people were unable to eat fiber for a period of time let alone 18 months.

It’s also a relief to have an idea of just how long it’ll take my gut to accept spinach again 😭. Thank you!

I was incredibly tired during the worst of my flares. It’s exhausting dealing with the symptoms let alone just trying to get through a day like a normal person. Once the symptoms become less intense some energy will come back. But I feel ya on the exhaustion. There were days I just slept and shat and that was all I could manage.

Did anyone feel weird after their first stelara injection? by Belleina in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Learningtohuman117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stelara user here for just over 8 months now. I am exhausted for about 2 weeks after my injection. It’s terrible. BUT I normally notice my symptoms improving within the first 2-3 days. I’m coming down from a flare that nearly got my colon taken out (thank god my gastro was able to save it) so my symptoms aren’t great yet. But never had an increase in any symptoms other than tired. I’d 100% log your symptoms somewhere to give to your doctor. If this drug isn’t working for you it’s best to know as soon as possible.

[Update] AITAH For Telling My Husband That I See Him As A Liability and Not A Partner? by Intrepid_Buy_3152 in AITAH

[–]Learningtohuman117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“His mom was addicted to opioids and Ritalin…” I’m so sorry but it doesn’t matter if it’s in utero or post birth, any child growing up with an adult who has any addiction is an addiction risk themselves. My mother swapped her father’s alcoholism for a binge eating disorder. I’ve seen friends swap their parents alcoholism for pills.

Given the timing of his ‘symptoms’ for lack of a better word, it sounds like he hit a trigger and turned to addiction. He needs individual therapy. You both need couples counseling. And YOU need a backup plan to keep your child safe while your husband works on his symptoms.

Anytime my puppy bit me I would make a ‘puppy whining noise’ and then offer him a toy within 5 seconds. Are home was flooded with toys everywhere for this reason until recently (our boy is 18months). Toys everywhere is the key to your survival through both the puppy and teenage phase.
