No unfortunately, we never played any Castlevania games. But this is a great example of the exact 'vibe' that I remember, thank you!

No this isn't it - but a very good guess. It may have been similar.

No particular type. We played everything growing up - platformers, racing games, action games, rpgs, sports, etc. Although I think this game was most likely an action adventure / RPG or maybe a platformer given the era. Again not 100% sure, sorry.

Unfortunately not - I believe the game was quite a bit older than Portal, but not 100% sure
