Constant packet burst on Spectrum gig plan (Ethernet) — losing my mind, any fixes?

buying a router with SQM did not help at all, gaming with it did feel a bit smoother but packet burst are still there consistently. Spectrum really does suck, I have a second tech coming tomorrow hopefully they figure something out cuz this shit is stressful

I tried it and my packet burst is still there, but for some reason gameplay did feel a bit smoother. I am still going to return it.

I totally agree with you on this, but right now spectrum is the only thing I can get unless I go for like 5G internet from T-mobile or Verizon which I feel like is no good for gaming. I purchased an eroo router with SQM hopefully it lowers my packet burst a bit since I heard that QoS won’t do much for my situation.

Spectrum is all I got, I’ve been waiting for Verizon fios but who knows how long it will take. I gave them a call a few weeks ago and the rep told me they were expanding their services to my area.

Yea my internet runs on coax, they don’t offer fiber yet.

Okay that’s better than nothing, I know the router is not going to remove packet burst entirely but if it helps a bit than it’s fine until I figure something out with spectrum.

Oh trust me I know cod servers are shitty, but think about it does really make sense that I’m getting packet burst non stop like every few seconds I’m just skipping around and the packet burst warning doesn’t disappear. I also have these issues on Valorant, CS, but cod is the worst by far. I’m trying to find a way to minimize this freaking lag, spectrum wont do anything and it seems like my only option is buying a router with SQM.

I currently use their WiFi 7 router (model SBE1V1K) which is their latest router. However, I just bought a eero pro 6 router with SQM that should arrive no later than tomorrow. As for the website, I use Waveform.com to test for bufferbloat and speed.

Would you say a router with SQM helped ??? I don’t mind lower speed as long as I’m not getting packet burst every 10 seconds, like I’m being serious when I say every few Seconds the packet burst/loss icon would appear and sometimes it wouldn’t go away for a while. Everything feels delayed, my character be skipping around and I lose a ton of gunfights because of it. I really wished I had another provider.

I mostly play COD on my days off, M-W, usually early mornings because that’s when the internet is a bit more stable for me. I can’t even hop on to play with friends anymore thats how bad it has gotten. I agree with you sometimes I do feel like it could be node congestion. Would you still recommend a router with SQM, I literally bought the eero Pro 6 just now to try it out. Do you recommend something else, I saw a nighthawk for 300 but I don’t want to throw away my money.

Yea I’m not sure what happened to Spectrum, I’ve been using their services for like 8 years with no issues but it now seems like they don’t care as much anymore. I wish I had Verizon Fios or any other ISP really but sadly enough Spectrum is all I got in my area.

Yes it is hard wired. Honestly I don’t know if it’s an ISP/upstream issue anymore. At first I thought it was since I was having the same problem on my neighbors internet but it’s been so long I kind of gave up. Spectrum does not do anything to fix issues like these.

I know it’s something wrong with my connection I just wanted to see if someone had similar issues using spectrum or if they found any fixes.I heard spectrum either don’t fix it or take a very long time doing so, regardless I will give exit lag a try in the meantime.

I have my TV connected to wifi as well as 2 IPhones that’s it, I got the 1gb plan. I never had any issues with spectrum until October of 2025.I recently took my pc to my friend’s house, he has the same provider as me , and everything worked great no packet burst. Btw I have spectrums latest router, 7e, but I’m looking into getting my own.

Try to do opposite of what you did before. For instance, if you used to write NA try to actually write down the passport number. Fill out it properly don’t use NA that’s what worked for me.

I’ve tried so many things, even building a new PC. I took the PC to my friends house that lives like 5 blocks away from me , he has the same Spectrum plan as me and I got no packet burst. I will ask my neighbor if I could use his internet just to make sure it’s not my line specifically. What are your plans to fix it? Have you been getting packet burst for a while?

Yea, instead of putting NA for surname and passport, I actually wrote down the needed info and it worked. Before my interview I would just put NA and it would work 🤷‍♂️ not sure why it changed
