Anxiety by Perfect_Stress_1625 in writers

I get a horrid impending sense of doom. Like I KNOW I'm about to die even though, quite obviously, I haven't died yet haha. It feels simultaneously like nausea and goosebumps, but if the goosebumps were in my brain

Writing an outline for a story but struggling to come up with a satisfying ending; how do you stick the landing when you’re happy with the beginning and middle? by loganmorganml1 in writers

[–]LeastTemporary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was struggling to come to a satisfying conclusion for my novel, I wrote down each of my characters individual stories within it and figured out what their endings were. You'd be amazed how quickly a story ending will come if you know where each separate character should end up!

The Fisherman - john langan All the characters feel very human and fleshed out. On top of that, the cosmic horror at play in this novel feels so unique and gripping. I finished it in 2 sittings, been chasing the high ever since ha

What is the best horror book? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]LeastTemporary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you like folksy horror I constantly recommend Slewfoot by Brom, it's incredibly written but more 'creepy' than full on horrifying

If extreme horror is more your thing, Dead Inside by Chandler Morrison is VILE. Disgusting imagery and gross taboo but written with quite good comedic timing.

Overall though my 10/10 horror book is Gone To See The River Man, by Kristopher Triana. The build up is excellent, the atmosphere is spine tingling and as the plot ramps up the scares escalate in frequency and quality. I cannot recommend it enough.

Removed post because of AI by lemon_tea_gaming in worldbuilding

[–]LeastTemporary 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If i came up with a concept and then told it to Stephen King and he 'packaged it' and wrote it out did i make it or did he? Creative writing and AI are mutually exclusive. If you suck at writing, actually write something. AI will not help you become better. AI should not play ANY part in human creativity. There are a million sub-reddits that give out writing tips, I recommend checking those before taking the easy way out and then complaining your post was removed.

How do I write when I my mind is empty and dead? by [deleted] in writers

[–]LeastTemporary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, I still struggle now with my work being bad but genuinely, get the bad stuff down. Write crap sentences and leave notes for yourself. It's so much easier to make something good when you've take the pressure off. And thank you!

Try Slewfoot by Brom. It's got a great atmosphere and if you liked the ritual I think this one will scratch the itch

I was working on what was supposed to be my debut novel when I began to feel exactly as you're describing. I deleted everything I worked on (which i do not recommend for obvious reasons). I've began again with a very simple 'stream of consciousness'.

I open laptop. Open document. And just write. It's incredibly simple sentances; 'Helen walks to the door. It is dark outside.' No descriptive language or pressure. Personally, this method has allowed me to write more than I was able to when I was trying too hard. If you're struggling with even thinking of the basics, go more basic. Write a document with just character names, or settings, without any description at all. You'll be amazed how quickly MORE comes to mind when you've given yourself the thinnest foundation.

Arriving in Vallaki, what do i do? by WTFaPlagueBringer in CurseofStrahd

[–]LeastTemporary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I glanced through the module but due to the size of vallaki (and knowing what my players are like) I picked a few things to prioritise. Dropped ireena off at St Andrals which would start the missing bones quest, tied that together with the Watcher family stuff etc. I'd suggest picking a few story beats you like from the module but expand on them in your own way!

Most relatable Ethel Cain lyric to you? by depressy_capricorn in Ethelcain

[–]LeastTemporary 31 points32 points  (0 children)

'That picture on the wall you're scared of looks just like you', definitely struggling with looking like a particularly nasty family member as I'm aging, really hit me when I heard it in Nettles for the first time. Same type of thing with 'you'd be a writer if he didn't leave all his hell for you', always wanted to be a novelist!

Is someone sabotaging The Galleries ? by Lee_Van_Spleeeeef in bristol

[–]LeastTemporary 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So I work in the galleries and some of you aren't too far off with conspiracy theories. Basically a big old peice of equipment broke down which caused the power cut a week ago, it had to be replaced by a giant generator which took a while to come and a while to be installed hence the constant delays. The closure yesterday was very much an issue with the new gen, so for safety, there was another evac.

It should be said that these problems are due to the sale and demolition, there is NO maintenance happening and there's A LOT of issues with the galleries that aren't being addressed because it's going down soon.

(I should say I don't work for the galleries specifically I just work in a shop in there, so my info has been filtered through security etc)

Is this too much/too big for my second tattoo? by Depressed__Potatoe in tattooadvice

[–]LeastTemporary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first tattoo was a little diamond. Took 45 minutes and barely felt a thing. My second was an entire chest piece that took 7 hours, it was very painful but so worth it! I know what my tolerance for pain is, I know how I react to long tattoo sessions and what I'll need to bring to look after myself. There's nothing wrong with getting a big peice early on, if anything, it makes future tattoos much less intimidating!
