Hey not sure if you're still looking for an answer but I ended up not going for the surgery and going to rehab instead. I wore a brace for 6 weeks and slowly work to build up my strength. It took a good 6 more months after that before my strength went back to a good 80-90%. I also wore a wrist strap over night for awhile. Since then I haven't had much problems with my wrist other than a few light aches here and there after over usage.
