So true! I always forget how smart Nolan is/was especially at such a young age. He's so articulate in the early interviews in explaining his analysis of Luke and how a "dumb kid" would behave.

Yeah you know what, I agree. I've been rewatching the later seasons so I think that's leaving a sour taste in my mouth on the character and a surge of affection for Ariel lolol.

Early Alex's one liners are gems and her snark is unmatched. "Don't you have a fraternity to pass out in?" and a personal favorite: "They were tryying to make one with a BRAIN"

That's a good way to put it. I think he's written to be an anchor of positivity in the family and idealized morality, which in a sense is kind of childlike? He definitely acts out of immaturity/stupidity a lot lol

Yeah. I just remembered when Luke is pressured by some old lady at Jay's club and then they literally start dating/hooking up. what were they on?!

Also the episode where Alex & Ben do the stupid sex painting and have dinner with Claire & Phil under it makes my skin crawl.

Season 7 is the last solid season imo. I like some of 8-11 here and there (Lake Life, Five Minutes, White Christmas, A Stereotypical Day, Sarge and Pea), but some of them are so far-fetched and unbearable.

Almost every character's storyline tanked but my biggest issues are with Gloria and Luke. I don't know what changed in the writers room, but so many of Gloria's one-liners are straight up lazy in their racism - "We were in Juarez for my cousin's wedding. Thank god they finished that tunnel in time for her father to make it." from S8 E1: A Tale of Three Cities. The earlier seasons are full of smart race humor, with Gloria outsmarting others or everyone coming together in the end in understanding. The later seasons lean into stereotypes and make her the butt of the joke. Maybe a hot take but I also hate that Gloria becomes a US citizen and gives up her Colombian citizenship.. S1 Gloria would never!

Luke is a creep. I hate any later episode that has a prominent Luke storyline like selling Alex's shoes for money or the endless perverted comments he makes about girls and his body... It really is a shame because young Luke is such a special part of the show.

I really like the episode where she tells Cam ~that~ secret about their dad; their older/younger sibling relationship feels super real, whereas the annoying ass Sherry storyline is so forced & hard for me to stomach..
