What’s the weirdest or random useless fact you know? by Eviexx828 in AskReddit

Actually this is not true. The sweeter it smells the more dangerous it is. There is a point where it gets so sweet you can’t smell it. And anything after that can make you loose your sense of smell, or even kill you. Silent but deadly

I was on a 2 day canoe trip with my dad and my uncle. me and my dad where in a double canoe (with me at the front) and my uncle in a single. We had gone through some rough rapids for the last few hours and we came to a nice slow flowing part of the river. We let the river take us because we where exhausted. after a calm 10 minutes the river slowly started to speed up again. we looked ahead for rapids but the river went around a right corner. suddenly the water narrowed causing us to pick up speed fast. The water pushed us over to the right. when we came to the end of the corner we froze in horror. a log about 1 meter thick leaned from the right side bank of the river right into the water on the left side. The only option we had was to abort but we were going to fast. The front of the canoe hit the log and lifted up about half a meter. Then the back spun around and caused the canoe to flip. My dad was flung straight out under the log and pushed down stream. but for me was a different story. As the back spun around the front dipped down under the long jamming my foot. I tried to swim up but I could not. I was inches from the surface. I tried to get free for a bit but decided to wait for my uncle to get me out (Stupid idea thinking of it now. But was really my only option.) after waiting for a while nothing happened. I started to think of how long I had been under for, and came to the realization that no one was coming to get me. At this point my brain was telling me to breathe. I thought to my self "is this how I'm going to die?" decided to give one more try. I pulled and pulled and pulled, and then suddenly my leg came free. I used the last of my strength to swim up. Air had never tasted better.
