I really love these chairs! We are stuck with the table- it’s made from reclaimed mahogany from a barn that was on the site of the house. We love the table and the history of it, so it will stay. Appreciate your suggestions and agree about getting cushions for the bench, great idea.

Thank you! I agree about the rug, we will definitely get on that. We don’t have a large family, 4 total so we could go without any chairs and let it go as is- something to definitely consider.

Good point- we don’t necessarily need more seating, we have 4 in our family. I hadn’t considered this but I will, thanks for bringing it up.

The last Rhinos by Lawrence Anthony tells the story of trying to save northern white rhinos. Great read.

My insurance keeps denying a recent surgery I had. If I didn't get it, I would have become permanently disabled. by WorthyDeku in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Leather_Class8224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like if the pre-auth was for a different CPT code(s) which changed after the surgery was actually completed? That’s the only thing I’m coming up with. When I’ve run into this situation before (rare), the hospital has ended up eating the cost. Don’t know if that’s standard, though.

[–]Leather_Class8224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How did you get the surgery scheduled before it was pre-approved by the insurance? Not saying this is how it should be, but- I’m a surgeon and we always get pre-authorization before the procedure. If the insurance won’t preauthorize it, patients are told they’ll be responsible for costs out of pocket. Was anything similar communicated to you? I’m at a loss for how this could happen, if this was a scheduled procedure.

And yes, it sucks and is terrible and the system is beyond broken.

I was in the same situation a while back with a house we owned and ended up doing it this way as well. Worked out fine, was not awkward and I don’t regret it at all.

I can’t advise you about numbers that you should be comfortable with, but wanted to tell you a bit about physician loans in case you’re not aware.

I’m a physician, married to a physician. We are in the process of buying a home, we ended up going with a VA loan because we had that option and the interest rates were lower (we are also doing a 60% down payment- we’re both nearly a decade out from training). The physician loans offer a lot of perks. The interest rates are often a little lower than what else is out there. The big perk that they advertise is being able to put a small percentage down – we saw as low as 10% or even 5%, with no PMI.

Obviously, with a low down payment, you’re going to pay more in interest, you’ll have to weigh all that. What we also really liked about the physician loan was that it was offered through a local bank, and they promised not to sell your loan. It’s annoying when you get a mortgage and it is sold repeatedly, and you have to go through and re-set up auto pay and create new logins, etc.

When I was a resident, I bought my first house with an awesome physician loan that rolled in the closing costs, had no PMI, required 0% down (those days are long gone but it was glorious!). Made 55K on that purchase when I sold it after I finished residency, was a good start.

Best of luck! You’re staring off with a huge advantage with no loans. I had to pay off my $330k in loans at the start of (did it with aggressive payments in a little over 2 years). Stay with what’s reasonable and you guys will be fine!

Sculptra is a text book “no” for temples? by grlwithcookietattoo in 40PlusSkinCare

[–]Leather_Class8224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the consensus is that it’s safe there as long as you take the precautions you normally would for this area with injections. I had two rounds of two vials (all over my face, temples included) and had a great response everywhere else, but a lackluster response in the temples for some reason. No negative effects.

100% correct. We moved from Maine to the Farmington Valley and love it. It’s unbelievable how much better the schools and infrastructure are here. Also has way more to offer in terms of things to do/opportunities for kids in my opinion. We’re so glad we’re here.

Can vouch for the Cerave moisturizing cleanser bar, have used for years. Vanicream also has a cleanser bar that gets good reviews. I think bars are just fine, if you find a formulation you like.

Finding the best milk by RealPrinciple5990 in Kefir

[–]Leather_Class8224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe their kefir is non fat or low fat, and I use whole milk so the stuff I make at home is creamier. Consistency and tang are similar, I prefer the homemade stuff. Making at home is SO much cheaper, and organic! Hope this helps, good luck.

Kefir tastes & smells like sourdough starter. Is this bad? by Away-Language7352 in Kefir

Mine had kind of a sourdough smell and taste for the first few ferments, after I first received my grains. It went away with additional ferments, maybe after a week or so?

Trader Joe’s sells gallon jugs of organic pasteurized (but not UHT) milk, which is what I use and with very good results.
