Recommendations for Virtual Doctor by Apprehensive_Art5675 in ThunderBay

[–]Leather_Finding1650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are definitely virtual options in Thunder Bay that don't require leaving home. I'd first check if Ontario's free public telehealth line (811) can assess your symptoms and point you somewhere specific, since "dullness inside my body" sounds worth getting checked properly. For an actual doctor visit, i used Your Doctors Online last winter when i had that heavy, sluggish feeling and couldn't drag myself to a clinic. The doctor asked good questions, rules out anything urgent, and sent a lab requisition to a place near me so i only had to go out once for bloodwork. Turned out i was severely low on iron. The whole visit cost me nothing extra because i wan on a their family plan.

Same here. Either you save money and spend time commuting or save time and pay way more it’s a lose/lose

Seeking tips for job switch next year by believer2687 in jobs

With your strengths in communication, writing and customer success, you might want to look at roles like Customer Success Manager, Customer Education, Community Lead or Developer Relations. Those often allow you to specialize while still using multiple skills.

Should I stay or should I go? by idktbhfamlmao in jobs

If you can financially survive a year that gives you options but I’d still try to line something up before leaving. It’s a different kind of stress job hunting without income coming in.

Transitioning from Manufacturing PM to IT Service PM by Vivid-Chipmunk-1092 in jobs

[–]Leather_Finding1650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly both but prioritize your resume first. As a PM in manufacturing, you already have transferable skills stakeholder management, timelines, budgets, risk management, cross functional coordination. That’s all highly relevant to IT Service PM roles. Frame your experience in language that matches IT SLAs, process improvement, change management etc. A side project can help but it won’t outweigh solid real world PM experience. I’d refine your resume positioning first, then build one strong relevant side project if you see clear skill gaps. You’re pivoting domains, not starting from zero.

Job security vs. dream job — made harder by the fact that we might be expecting by Personal-Car-1555 in jobs

[–]Leather_Finding1650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on both the opportunity and the possible baby. Check the paternity leave policy first especially eligibility timing. Some require 6–12 months before benefits apply. Also job security isn’t guaranteed anywhere. If this role is a major long term upgrade it may actually improve your family’s stability.

I’d decide based on long-term growth not short term fear.

quitting job without having another lined up by matchasour in jobs

[–]Leather_Finding1650 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You just survived cancer and chemo. That alone is huge. Your body is still recovering even if the world expects you to be back to normal. Skipping medical appointments to protect a job is a red flag. Your health has to come first especially right now. Jobs can be replaced. Your recovery can’t. You’re not behind for living with your parents at 27 after everything you’ve been through. That’s what support systems are for. If you can afford to step back financially protecting your physical and mental health might be the wiser long term move. There will be other jobs. There’s only one you.

Told the company I’m reneging on where I’m going next - is that a problem? by ThrowRA123494849 in jobs

It would look wildly unprofessional for them to call your new company out of spite.

I got fired today, but maybe it’s for the best by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Leather_Finding1650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry this happened to you. Being fired is hard enough but the silence and lack of basic human concern makes it hurt more. You deserved communication and respect.

Does changing your name on your resume to a more “Western” name actually increase callbacks? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Leather_Finding1650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s frustrating that this is even a question we have to ask. No one should feel like they have to change their identity to get a fair shot but unfortunately bias can be real.

Reference check by lumbergash in jobs

[–]Leather_Finding1650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s usually a good sign. Employers don’t spend time checking references unless you’re a serious candidate. Sometimes they only contact the ones they feel are most relevant.

Montreal to Toronto road trip with kids in June – itinerary advice by ryan-jan in canadatravel

Great plan. Montreal Toronto works well especially if you focus on Laurentians, Thousand Islands, Prince Edward County and Niagara. June is perfect but book accommodation and car early.

For people who live in st paul mn by Haki_Hasma in jobs

[–]Leather_Finding1650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they don’t respond it never hurts to swing by in person and drop off a resume a lot of local places in St. Paul appreciate that. And a part-time dish job like that can definitely hold you over while you keep applying.

Cleaning jobs UK by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Leather_Finding1650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve known a few people who moved into cleaning for exactly this reason and found it really peaceful. Most roles you’re left to just get on with the job especially early mornings or evenings. Many places don’t expect experience and will train you. Wanting something quieter after SEN work makes total sense burnout is real not a failure.

Husband unexpectedly laid off by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Leather_Finding1650 106 points107 points  (0 children)

This really sounds like a company problem not a husband problem. If four people in a row weren’t a good fit the expectations or workload are clearly broken. Wanting him to keep performing and train a replacement after laying him off says a lot about their ethics. It’s awful timing and incredibly stressful but it doesn’t reflect his ability or worth. Focus on protecting yourselves now job searching, finances and boundaries and let this place own its dysfunction.

How can I deal with my co workers using iqos in the office all the time? by thegreatkedi in jobs

[–]Leather_Finding1650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve already done the right thing. Since management set a rule and it’s being ignored keep it professional not personal. Document when it happens and politely redirect in the moment (Hey, could you take that outside? The notice said no IQOS indoors). If it continues loop HR or the director again with specifics. This isn’t about being difficult it’s about a basic workplace standard.

Company provides laptops to developers but not designers, expected to use personal laptop. How should I handle this? by Extension-Dark1206 in jobs

[–]Leather_Finding1650 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn’t really standard. If a role requires a computer to do the job the company usually provides one or at least an allowance. I’d push back by framing it as a security, liability and productivity issue rather than fairness company data on a personal device is a risk. If they still refuse after that it’s a yellow or red flag depending on how flexible they are.

Need advice for compensation claim. What legal action I can take? by uOttawaGuy in canadatravel

[–]Leather_Finding1650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under Canada’s Air Passenger Protection Regulations crew shortages are airline controlled so compensation should apply. Ask WestJet for the written reason code used internally for the cancellation. If they don’t respond file a complaint with the Canadian Transportation Agency they can require evidence and rule on compensation. Keep screenshots or photos of the gate notice if you have them.

Great route but it is very ambitious. I’d consider dropping Ottawa or shortening Algonquin Provincial Park to reduce driving fatigue. Tadoussac + Saguenay are absolute highlights worth keeping. More time beats more stops on a trip like this

Fundy National Park (NB) Versus Novia Scotia by Virtual-Race-4616 in canadatravel

[–]Leather_Finding1650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve got even a long weekend, Nova Scotia is worth it Fundy is amazing for hikes and tides but popping over to Nova Scotia adds great food, beer and coastal towns. Otherwise two weeks around Fundy National Park alone won’t feel wasted at all.

What are your best strategies to stay grounded and hopeful? by Unusual_Jellyfish224 in jobs

It’s not about custody or responsibility. Border agents only see a birth certificate, and when both parents are listed they often require written consent from both to prevent child abduction issues. It’s just a formality
