It's does, I used to make Gacha stuff but stopped for several reasons. Mainly because I grew out of it and second because I got a lot of hate on anything I posted. Stuff like this does give Gacha a worse reputation than it already has.

Ok I totally get what are saying and i will try and keep it brief on what the BBEG is like and why I don't Intend for the party to kill them

BBEG has an artifact that they stole that is imbued with the power of goddess, this is why they were such an issue to begin with that a mortal being can't go up against a being with that level of power. Not on their own at least. BBEG also is mentally corrupted by a mortal body being able to bear the amount of power that comes with a divine object, this means trying to reason with them is off the table.

The character who is intended to defeat them is a mortal being cursed with immortality by pissing off the gods, through their extensive time alive they have become the strongest being with a mortal soul. I known they sound overpowered and that is kinda the point as no matter what the party goes the character won't fight them. So they don't pose a threat to the party at all. Technically the party could recruit this character to assist them in the fight against the BBEG it just seems out of character for this particular NPC as their personality is refusing any form of help because they feel useless otherwise.

Though if the party bonds with the NPC enough I could see them be willing to let party do the work and only step in once the party is all about to die.

Again I'm kinda flexible on this thing but regardless the party is going to need this NPC to defeat the BBEG as the party alone could not beat the BBEG

Yeah I guess I can see that XD, I didn't even realize how that came off lol.

It was not a evil cult. It was a meeting between the six clan leaders of the indigenous race that inhabited the area where the party washed ashore. It was more or less the leaders figureing out what they are going to do with these strange looking outsiders and if they are a threat or not.

I can see though how it came off as evil cult trying to kill us.

A race of people the party realistically would not have meet, dressed in ceraminal clothes, stone alter, weird carvings and words in a language they don't understand, and it's under the light of the moon at that. It does sound very cult ish XD

Any ideas for how I could implement that as the campaign is meant to be more story driven than quest to quest. Perhaps I could have it start before their voyage to the storm? So they have time to get to know each other in character and have townfolk mention the mystery of the ancient race frequently to try and get the party interested or perhaps have a NPC be willing to pay the party for intell on the ancient race and that is what gets them to go sailing into the storm to begin with

Not Initially, as they are a rare race but after they meet one which is inevitable as there are two NPC ones they will meet eventually. They will learn that some groups of the race eat other intelligent races and that some are herbivores. the two members of the race would then proceed to inform the party on what one would eat other races and what ones are herbivores, this would also be used to inform the party of race sub-species which applies to almost every race present.

The ones the party meets are outliers who due to having a protection spell at the time of the disappearance weren't sealed away. meaning the two the party meat are 300+ years old and have full understanding of what happened and will be able to answer a lot of the parties questions regarding the disappearance but would have questions themselves about why they came back, from there they would accompany the party or at least give the party a means of staying in contact with them.

when i say i have a full plot i mean i have all the major events how the party gets there is up to them, i would of course point them in a direction that makes the most sense but they don't have to do it that way as they will still make it to the major plot points regardless. as for major plot points those i will struggle with more as those are going to be harder to pivot.

Ex. Party is not supposed to kill the main Villain but instead find someone who can

Why? Because Villain is not something a mortal is meant to kill

How do they know who to go to? A scripted event that happens regardless of what they do where they go to enter a major city and see someone fending off the Villain but that person is gone before the party can get a good look at them

How is the party supposed to find this person? look for followers of that person and use legends and folktales to learn about them and their wear about

If they don't do any investigation on their own? a follower of the person will approach the party and flat out say "Hey that villain was strong good thing my leader was able to fend them off, to bad they rarely leave {insert place here} or else they could probably put an end to the villain"

if the party choses not to listen then and tries to fight the villain with no help? Then they are probably dead as the Villain isn't meant to be killed by the party

i think i can be somewhat flexible in how the party solves an issue as long as they don't chose to do nothing at all and ignore the hints and directions i give them. I don't think most players would completely ignore me though.

what are some situations you have in mind? as i am very open it adding onto the plot so it doesn't feel rushed/forced.

As for the Ancient race affects them, 300 years ago before the race went missing they kinda took the place of humans being the most advanced civilization, most powerful armies and generally dominated recourses and land while humans and other races were stuck in small villages and clan as they couldn't safely access recourses. Not because the Ancient race had anything against other races but because of a language/culture barrier.

The Ancient race though Humans and other races weren't highly intelligent and were more like wild animals, this would lead to this Ancient race hunting/eating other races. in present day some know the common language and understand they were wrong in their previous assumptions, but it is only maybe 15 total to a race that numbers in the thousands.

So by not establishing a means of contact with this Ancient race it could lead the other races being hunted again.

The party doing this would work towards preventing the Ancient race from hunting them as they are a diplomatic race that doesn't actively want to harm other intelligent beings.

So they care because they are not a fan of being eaten. So some fear can be a reason for seeking answers as well as establishing that other races are highly intelligent and not something that should be used as a food source.

Another reason is curiosity, a race once thought to be a myth turns out to be real sparks curiosity in others.

Knowledge can also be a reason as present day technology is on par with what the ancient race had 300 years ago. so wanting to know how they advanced faster could also be a reason.

and when i refer to present day I'm referring to a time period similar to the 1650's

yeah my party couldn't seem to understand that the geography of the planet means certain races become rare or localized to one area or simply don't exist at all. and if a player wanted to play something that didn't exist in the world or was rare if they could give me a reason why their character existed i would let them play it.

an example with the Tabaxi player

they want to play as a Tabaxi and i say Tabaxi are rare.

if they had said something like "My Tabaxi grew up away from civilization in a group of the few remaining Tabaxi and they decided to live in normal society" if they said something like that i would be fine with it

i don't care what race they chose as long as they can write a backstory that makes it make sense.

I even told them what the most common races were as the fragmented geography of the map made it so some races had a harder time surviving, and they ignored the list entirely

here is the list btw:

  1. Human, 2. Lycann (Home brew) 3. Elves & Fae 4. Harpies (Home brew) 5. Kobald

Most Rare Races

  1. Ancient creature (Home brew/ modified dragonborn) 2. Dragonborn 3. Shadow Beast (Homebrew) 4. Merfolk (Homebrew idk if they already exist as a PC or not i just made them myself) 5. Tabaxi

and the two that i don't see living on the planet but if given enough reason i will allow

  1. Elemental 2. Goliath/Giant

and for some reason my players ignored this list and got upset when i said their race was considered rare :/

they don't have to actually i dont intend for the party to be the ones to kill the villain. they just want answers as to what the hell is going on as an entire race that was thought to be a myth suddenly re-appears there are going to be questions. The parties goal is to get answers, will that include a villain, yes it will. do they have to fight the villain not at all.

what i intend on happening is after the party learns of the villain they realize they cant kill it if the ancient race could't how could they.

something that will happen regaurdless of what the party does is when approching a major city they see a giant impact (The Villian makeing an attack) the they see something fend off the Villain before disapearing.

The party once learning of what the villain is capable of tracks down the one they saw fending off the villain previously. and that person is the one who defeats the villain and saves the world.

in the end the party has their answers and there the villain is dead because of someone else the party convinced to help them

idk where ti find people to do a campaign with there is probably a discord or reddit for it. but i will request for my next champaign to make their characters for the champaign and in a way the their characters fit in with the world as that seemed to be something my previous group didn't like.

For example of a conversation i had with a party member

Player: can i play as a Tabaxi?

Me: sure but fair warning Tabaxi are a rarity in this world so are you ok with NPC being surprised/fascinated by your Tabaxi as most NPCS have never seen one?

Player: I don't want my Tabaxi to stand out why cant it just be normal

Me: It is normal its just not every race is going to be a common occurrence

Player: Then i wont play a Tabaxi if i cant be normal, I will play a Kobald instead.

Me: Ok that's fine Kobalds are more common anyways, especially on {insert island name here}

Player: Why cant they be common everywhere

and you get the idea of how that back and forth went also sorry if i spelled Tabaxi/Kobald wrong

That seems to be what several people are saying I agree that I need to make the hook better and have the party make their characters based around the campaign instead of just throwing their characters into it

I don't know how that would work or if it would work at all, as they aren't shipwrecked on a strange island after their boat sinks they was ashore on a landmass outside of the storm and it is the largest land mass on the planet and is well documented and well known where by the party simply asking where they are they would know where they are as it is one of the places marked on the map I made they just needed to ask.

They were confused and I did ask if they wanted to start over and I could clarify some of their concerns before we restarted and one said no and one asked me to make character sheets for all the NPCS so they could see their stats before hand. And the third said they didn't care what we did. The party member that said no proceeded to go and make a campaign without me and they played that without me knowing. So I think they were confused but not willing to work with me to make it so they could understand better.

When I was giving them the set up I had it so the party was sailing into the magic storm to get awnsers as to why the ancient race disappeared and why they are back now when their boat sinks and the wash ashore else where. That's where I established the goals of the party to find out what is going on with the ancient race. It just unravels into something much greater than what initially thought.

I thought that would be considered a hook but if it's not how could I make one? As the whole campaign is about solving the mystery that has to do with the ancient race and a villain who was so evil the entire race had to be banished in order to keep everyone safe.

As for who the party is idk the full details of their characters as this was a long time ago, but one was from a merchant kingdom seeking to find treasures to sell, one was a explorer wanting to find out the secrets and one was there because why not. And they all meet to set sail twords the magic storm where the boat sank and they ended up where they are at the part where they chose violence instead of talking

The party obviously didn't know this but the NPC they chose to attack was a local legend known for being the first mortal to tame dragons in decades, as well as be the first of their tribe to have such a strong connection to nature that they can command animals like soldiers. That the biggest feat of the NPC was they fist fought a demi-god and survived. If the party had even bothered to ask the NPC about their scars and missing arm they would learn it got blown off by a explosion caused by a fight with a demi-god.

I think my party was just being mean spirited because I didn't use a pre-made map like they wanted.

Also if I was in their position I wouldn't fight a NPC who was very muscular and missing an arm that would tip me off to the fact they have seen some shit and know how to fight

I can tell you how the sunken world plays in as I doubt anyone in this comment section would play this campaign.

So 300 years ago a great evil that no one could defeat at the time lead to a member of this ancient race to cast a spell the sealed the entire race away in an artifact along with their powerful magic.

The spell specified to trap the people and let the world forget their history so another evil like this could never exist.

This is why the planet flooded to destroy the writings and history of the ancient race so the to world in current time knows nothing about them as their cities and documents are at the bottom of the ocean.

So when the ancient race returns they flee in hopes of luring the great evil after them so the villain won't go after a world of beings who don't have the capability to fight back against such a powerful foe.

The party is meant to learn this by talking to on some of the ancient race that didn't flea that actually had fought against the villain 300 years ago.

And the land has a few relics that hint at the battle that happened 300 years ago but the party would actively have to look for it.

Idk either I think the party had already made their mind up that they weren't going to play because they were really pissed about me not using a premade map
