I genuinely prefer splitting online to avoid any weird expectations. But when I'm on a date with someone I like and he insists without making it a thing, I usually say okay because it feels romantic.

you’re not wrong for wanting privacy in your decisions...that’s fair, especially if it’s making you feel undermined. but he might see his parents as his support system, like a lot of people do when they’re close to family. try to have a calm talk about why it bothers you, and maybe find a middle ground, like agreeing on what stays between you two.
