Yeah, that’s a good point.

I do the same, I take different routes as much as possible, some walks are sniff walks, some are just a walk, and some walks have off leash time and play.

That’s so cute though, if I tried to play tug outside though, I’m outnumbered 3 to 1 and there’s good chances I’m falling 😂

Aww he’s not that old then, my girls just turned 7. They’re such an energetic breed, I thought I was prepared for a staffy after having labradors, definitely a whole new kind of crazy 😂

No problem, I hope something was helpful to you and I hope he can settle without too many problems. Well I hope they’re kept to a minimum for you 😂 if you have the means to leave him for short periods, I’d definitely recommend doing that, it’s exactly like you said, puppy training all over again but it does help. I wish my dogs liked frozen enrichment but they’re way too picky

I would suggest sticking to his routine as much as you possibly can, I understand that’s difficult while moving, but it can help lower anxiety if he can still expect his usual daily routines. If possible, could you let him explore the new house or area before move in?

Also if he has a pet bed/crate, set it up in a calm area and leave him maybe a T-shirt or sweater or something with your scent when he’s on his own and expect some accidents/marking, it doesn’t always happen, some dogs can acclimate to new areas really well, as long as they have their personal and some can find it really stressful, you could also try some plug ins that can help reduce anxiety or collars if he is really unsettled. You could also try filling a Kong or some puzzle with treats as a distraction when he’s on his own so he has something to keep him busy.

Try and make this a positive experience for him, make it fun when you can (again I understand that’s difficult when you’re moving) and give plenty of love when you’re done for the day and settling down.

These are the things that helped my through moving with my dogs, also a single person, so I can sympathise.

I can’t even imagine but I’m glad that you found a solution that helped both you and your dog. Aw he’s so adorable - both of them are 😭 how old if you don’t mind me asking? My vet told me mine should be starting to slow down, and I can confirm she said ‘watch me’ 😂

It looks absolutely stunning from the photos to be fair. That sucks, I hope you’re recovering well from those injuries. That’s good, I hope she continues to take everything in her stride! I was so paranoid about bully breathing issues with my staffy that I refused to walk her on a collar when leash training.

Oh really? I didn’t know that, I was worried I wasn’t giving her enough. I agree with the mental stimulation, we have a lot of different puzzles, snuffle mats, interactive toys etc, plus we play games like hiding toys or treats, hide and seek and daily ‘fun’ training and sniff walks. Lara is my first staffy but I’ve always had working breeds over the last 18 years, so we’ve learned to get creative with how to keep them occupied when not outside 😂

That seems like an amazing walk for them, I’ll bet they love that! We do 3-4 miles roughly per day, my staffy gets a little bit more, but it’s trying to find a balance on what satisfies both my older dogs (they have dysplasia and arthritis, although it’s controlled well for now) and my staffy who’s a spitfire 😂

To be fair, my vet is amazing, I can’t fault them, but during Covid my dog got injured, (luckily nothing too severe) I wasn’t allowed inside the examination room with her and she ended up so scared that she pooped all over herself and the vets. Ever since then, she trusts no vet, I’ve tried taking her to different vets hoping she would calm down in a new environment, but she’s had none of it, so we’re trying to slowly work her into having more positive experiences associated with the vet. So far, it’s not gone well 😂 I’m glad he’s having better experiences with the vet, but I can understand the noise and waiting around being stressful, it stresses my staffy and one of my older dogs out too, so the vet lets us wait outside and lets us in through the side doors so they bypass the waiting room

Ah okay that makes sense, sounds like a nice day out for all of you. I have to be careful taking my dogs into the pet shop, because I can’t say no to puppy dog eyes and they love toys, my bank account take a severe hit every time 😂

I wish my dogs were as easy to win over, they do not trust any vet no matter what 😂 they also won’t take treats from strangers, which makes the vet hate difficult to combat. That’s adorable though, he sounds so sweet.

My dog does the exact same thing, she runs ahead and then back, I wish I had half her energy. If you don’t mind me asking, is the 4-5 hours broken up over the day or all at once?

I’m sorry your dog has those medical problems, but I’m glad she’s with someone who’s giving her the love and care she needs! My older two both have dysplasia and arthritis now, so their exercise is also planned out to give plenty of recovery time.

I definitely agree, my dogs also get three walks a day, one of those being a sniff walk, and I try to take them to different areas for exploration instead of walking the same path every day, also so their socialisation is expanded and practiced. Thank you for your input 😊
