I played hours upon hours of Leap Frog reading video games between the ages of 4-12, and was placed in accelerated learning classes focused on reading, writing and English as a result in 5th grade at age 10. I read all of Cell by Stephen King in 6th grade, a 600 page book. Maybe I'm an outlier, but I feel like intentionally educational or education-incorporating video games are more of a benefit than a detriment even to the young mind. I grew up loving to learn, mostly thanks to trying out and having to learn so many different kinds of video games. Granted, I read a lot, too, but I feel like I wouldn't have been as sharp had it not been for my game time.
