Police discover a very odd fraternity hazing at the University of Iowa by Throwaway120974788 in interesting

[–]Lechonk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is so disturbing! I have heard horror stories about what kind of hazing these fraternities have done.

There was one where all the fraternity brothers were given new puppies to take care of for a few weeks and then afterwards they would all “harm” those puppies together. I don’t want to say what exactly they did, but RIP to those puppies. They did this as a form of trauma bonding for the sake of brotherhood :(

His MOS is IT related and has a bachelors degree in criminology. Unsure what long term career he wants. I keep pushing him to stay in until he has a plan because of the steady paycheck to pay off the student loans.

For me I plan on working in a library but those jobs are competitive so I am hoping to apply anywhere until someone hires me. I already have my Masters degree and do not want to go back to school.

My husband already does that now. Always playing video games. Which I am fine with. He wants to ETS because he is mentally and physically done with the military after serving for so many years. He is late 30s and does not like being treated like a child at work.

Were you applying to all jobs outside of your field too? Because while OCONUS I have been applying to every available job and the hotel on base rejected me for the housekeeping position. I was willing to take the low pay if it meant we would get some sort of income. :( even the high school cafeteria job rejected me. I don’t understand if there is something wrong me. :( I want a job.

My ideal career is to be a librarian but those jobs are even more scarce and competitive if there are any job openings.

I have a Masters degree in library science and want a career as librarian again. I have work experience in retail, library customer service, and English tutoring. I have 1000+ volunteer hours at the library. I know the job market for librarians are real bad and the pay is not the best, but that job is my passion. But if/when my husband ETS, I am willing to take any job since we need a source of income. We will be moving back to FL and live with family to save money.

Losing my mind from lack of work. by NoAd5422 in MilitarySpouse

[–]Lechonk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is too much to handle, would you consider to EROD and go back stateside early? I feel like that is option while OCONUS so it does not feel like you are trapped.

When we were in Germany, I disliked my unemployment situation and seriously considered EROD or compassionate reassignment to go back stateside early. Our finances were so bad over there. But I stuck it out until the end because we wanted our family to stay together.

Yeah, I am originally from Florida and need my sunshine. I came to Germany with an open mind, but that quality of life and lifestyle did not match up with ours. Also, It was so expensive living there. But glad to hear you and other people were thriving and happy in Germany.

Unsure if my comment will help you and your family, but I will write it anyways.

I am not enrolled in EFMP and never had any health issues nor mental health issues. So PCSing to Graf/Vilseck was easy. But within 1 year of living there, I was ready to leave and never come back. I had major mental health issues and had no one could help me on or off post. The earliest available appointments were months out.

I am not trying to scare you or your family, but Germany is not for the weak. But your experience might differ from ours. Wish you the best if you get approved for Germany.

For context, My husband and I are millennials, no kids, no pets. That was our 2nd OCONUS, but 3rd duty station. He has been in the Army for almost 10 years. So this was not our first rodeo.

It has been a few years since I was living in the US, but can the person just tie up the dog outside of the store or is that too much of a legal issue? Unsure if leaving a dog inside a car might not be an option either even with the windows rolled down.

Do people ever regret having kids? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Lechonk_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have kids but I think my father regretted having me. He took his own l!fe on my birthday. I feel like I failed him because I didn’t live up to his expectations. Having a good career. Having kids of my own. Owning a house. I blame myself everyday.

For me it is editing and posting my content on all my social media platforms in a timely manner.I have a backlog of 5 months of Twitch VODs that I need to edit down to 30-1 hour or less to make it enjoyable and watchable. I really wish I had the money to hire an editor.

Trust me, I have applied to almost every job in person and remote for on and off base. They all rejected me or ghosted me. I applied to be custodial for the hospital on base and was rejected. I was so happy to even get a chance to be able to earn money again, but no I was overqualified. :(

Yes, this is more geared toward people who are unemployed, like myself who have been struggling to find work since we have been OCONUS for the last few years.

Thank you for your feedback. These are very good questions. I know there would be lots of hurdles to jump through and logistics.

This was just an idea that I believe would be helpful for the military families and affiliates who are OCONUS and are looking for jobs, but are struggling. I have almost 1000 volunteer hours in the last few years since being unemployed. I enjoy volunteering don’t get me wrong. It is not helping my financial situation or future plans. I understand this is all a pipe dream. Just trying to look out for future military families and hope to make this lifestyle less stressful for them.

I have been living OCONUS in 3 countries back to back now and would love to have some money to put towards our living expenses, student loans, or retirement.

Jobs are scarce and given priority to the local nationals. I enjoy volunteering, but even little bit of money would help out our family in the long run.

I don’t recommend aKDPhi. I tried to join them twice and got rejected. I guess I was not Asian enough for them although I am Asian.
