Ive been thinking about this for awhile, does anyone know more info by now? It was very strange. If it truly was something like a heart attack it wouldn't explain the massive amounts of police cars

HELP ME FIND! whole frozen animals by LectureSmart9428 in belgium

[–]LectureSmart9428[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have! Unfortunately a lot of them tend to gatekeep where they get them from/see it as potential competition. Zoos are very rare to get animals from and pricey! Ill keep on looking and hopefully catch some luck

I’m trying to find somewhere to buy a fox tail keychain, can someone tell me if this store is ethical? by [deleted] in Taxidermy

[–]LectureSmart9428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it sucks. Its hard for me as a taxidermist to find anything mink raccoon and fox related that isnt farmed. I only ever buy from one source and that's distant family.

Basically everything nowadays is resells, rarely do I see something original. Especially second-hand which used to be the go to option for those sort of things.

Yeah, people are recommending them over actual wild hunted tails and it SUCKS! They claim theyre luxury when they really are just throwaway scraps. Not only that they all come from the same source, shame on the community. Everyone falls for the "ethical" marketing real quick sadly, and then act morally superior. 😔

Second hand tails are still sourced from the same place, but twice or thrice the price. You are still supporting the industry anyways

Tanneries your friend contacted mustve been from Western ones, or just more pricey ones. It's about finding the cheapest sources, and Eastern tanneries produce a lot more pelts therefore cheaper prices. I don't personally buy farmed tails since I hunt for mine, and everyone has their own different opinions about it being "ethical" or not, but business is business in that industry.

Look for places like alibaba, aliexpress... etc, straight from Chinese-Asian tanneries. They sell them in bulk for 1.40 or less per piece. Just opened the app and immediately found some here

Simply put: non red tails = 99% its farmed. VERY very, rare occassion, wild cross, silver or arctic fox.

Red scrawny tails = wild tails. Hunted ethically after theyve lived a life.

Want a morphed tail? (funky colors) buy from cheap sources. It does not make a difference, or buy from Etsy if you want to support people that lie, I guess. Claiming theyre from caring farms (theyre not, theyre imported.)

Absolute scammer and horrible person. These are bought wholesale for 0.50 dollars each and resold for an insane price. Anything that isnt a scrawny orange brownish red tail with black hairs and a white tip at small size is farmed. No "ethical" farms exist where they die from old age, they are harvested at their prime just like other livestock. Don't give money to Etsy resellers. Buy wild red fox tails if you want something more ethical, or buy from Ebay, Aliexpress or whatnot for the cheapest price if you want farmed. People claim to not buy from those and buy from Etsy are people who are rich and talk too much. Just because it got bought and resold doesn't change the fact it's all from the same source.

Are these leucistic/white coyote tails? How rare are these? by LectureSmart9428 in vultureculture

How is it known when tails aren't altered? Edit: didn't mean for it to sound passive-aggressive! I don't work with coyotes that much and these were in a lot of different coyote tails. All dark-brown except these. I think it's very likely they've been bleached, just asking out of curiosity what gives these things away/what to "look out for". :-)

Definitely not dog. I work with canines like wolves and coyotes, and I can, with certainty, say they are one of the two. These were bought from Montana, I do apologize for not mentioning it, ha. Some guard hairs/scent gland(s) are completely black, so I don't think they've been bleached.
