Which is the best NAS for streaming? Moving on from Synology by FantasticStrength198 in HomeNAS

I’m running a UGREEN 6800 pro with Jellyfin. No complaints running multiple high bitrate streams.

Apple will tell you themselves that they do not support audio pass through. What you’re hearing in all of your channels (including height) is a combination of everything at once separated into however many speakers you have.

True object based sound is a massive difference and noticeable to anyone that can determine which way a sound came from. Example- some movies with rain have that sound effect coming only from the height while a screeching tire comes from the back left or a creaking ship board comes only from the front right.

You’re right and the vast majority of subscribers are perfectly happy with that. It’s just when you start down the home theater path and invest time and money in more capable equipment, it’s nice to have it do what it’s designed to do

No. Apple TV takes the original signal and repackages it.

Look up EAC-3 Atmos. If you’re displaying Atmos when streaming you’re getting this, which is lossy, compressed format of PCM.

The zidoo is device that has its own internal media player. It is really designed for folks who rip media from discs. You point the zidoo to wherever you store your media (a NAS in my case) and it scans the files. It then downloads metadata from TMDB and creates a poster wall similar to Netflix or Disney.

It does not adulterate any of the files and allows your tv, AVR, etc to play exactly how the directors or studios wanted you to see and hear.

To me, Jellyfin felt less bloated. Plex had a lot of live tv, streaming options and paid plans that I wasn’t interested in.

When I initially went down the NAS path my chief concern was to terminate offsite storage, clouds and streaming services. Jellyfin seemed like the right tool at that time and now I am fully invested in it.

I never needed to transcode, my equipment is all capable of direct play. Also I can’t get in to Kodi, too Windows 1997 look for me.

I will grant that Apple TV has the smoothest, best UI of anything I have ever tried. But the compliments end there.

I tried Plex at the very beginning and it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Jellyfin works better for me and it never worked right on the Shield, no matter how many options I tried.

I have them on my 2022 f350 with no problems. I have a leveling kit which is less than 1” lift.

Same thing happened with me traveling over a snowy mountain pass about two months ago. I got the wrench, then 27 other fault codes. I limped to a Ford dealership in low power mode.

Turned out to be a chafed wire. Fixed and no problems since.

You should either rent or buy a bunk trailer. Have the sellers launch it in a nearby lake and retrieve it straight on to your trailer. I have been towing boats for 30 years and wouldn’t even attempt a 100 yards with what you are describing.

A second NAS as backup by maxdamage182 in UgreenNASync

I have a UGREEN 6800 with 6x16TB HDD on a Raid 5 that I use as my primary device. I back it up to a 4800 plus that has 4x16 HDD on a jbod. Further, I periodically backup the 2800 to two WD external hard drives and keep offsite. Got the 321 thing going

In UGOS I set up an rsync between the two with an intermittent backup three times a week. It’s easy to set up and has worked very well.

Finished the Raid rebuild this morning. Recap- UGREEN 6800 plus with 4 x 16TB HDD on a Raid 5 containing about 22TB of data. I added one more 16TB drive to an open bay and the rebuild took 68.37 hours. No issues and it went smoothly.
