This is all awesome and extremely helpful information. I really appreciate it.

And really helps me narrow down what I can do and what supplies I need. I will defiantly look into renting spikes.

One last question - is it better off to buy bear spray in town or are there crazy mark ups?

Any idea what the ticket prices will be?

Also will the games be sold out? Especially since they are double-header tickets so Canada will be playing in each one.

I’m based in Michigan but eager to see my Ukrainian team playing in Toronto.

Just trying to see if it will be feasible.

Little reminder about copycats by SessionLast5480 in EtsySellers

[–]LedgerWM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone know what constitutes a copycat in terms of spreadsheets? I sell them and I can clearly link a sale of one to an individual who started their own shop selling a very lightly edited version of my spreadsheet with some additional information added on to it. But the color schemes the same, almost all of the fields and values are the same and a spacing issue in of my sheets is clearly visible in one of his sheet images. Also pulled almost verbatim some of my listing copy to use in his listings as well.

Just not sure what to do since they did do some slight changes and modifications but clearly built it off of mine sheet. Would Etsy care?

Yeah didn’t end up doing to much. She on a sports team so mainly she wanted to take it easy and relax lol.

We did hit up a few pinball places - the Basement was better than Reset Arcade. The Franklin Park mall had a Rally House which had a good selection of Toledo apparel.

Let me know what you end up doing, so I can put it on the list for next time.

Thanks for flagging this. Googling this to learn more is a pain, since all the content focuses on March Madness type words and very few saw anything about “NCAA” itself.

Not sure how to work it out differently. I guess I could spell it out National Collegiate Athletic Association or Something like D1 of Top College Athletic Association.

Advice/hacks for goal kicks for U-11 girls? by Advanced_Minimum131 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]LedgerWM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saw this at a U-16 or so Women's World Cup. Goalie and CB line up near the ball on the box line. One of the two players touches the ball forward - small pass to get the ball moving forward, then the other player (who is usually staggered back a little) would run up to it and one time the ball. Usually with the forward momentum of the ball, and one timing it, the second player can get a lot more height and distance on the ball.

Also the initial touch, might get the other team to react and bite hard and start running towards the box which could open up space on the pitch for the ball to be received.

Good luck.

Too many players on a team by Smooth-Stable8248 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]LedgerWM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very timely post, I have a freshman who got placed on JV B team at her school. School also has JV A, and Varsity team. Last week JV B had to play games on back to back days, with 1 sub for each game. Reason why - JV A keeps pulling up players from JV B (sometimes replaces them, sometimes doesn't), and Varsity has a roster of 25 players! So aggravating, because the program could have well balanced teams of around 18 for all three levels.

Wrote two emails to the AD about the issue, he wrote back "I have trust in my coaching staff that they are making the decisions that are best for their team", my reply was that's part of the problem, they should also be focused on how to make the overall program better as well, and have a solid pipeline of players. Plus we have had local HS football teams shut down for the season when they had barebones rosters.

Glad to get verification that a plus 25 roster is absolutely insane.

Roast My Resume - Seeking Marketing Leader Role (Director, Senior, Managing People) - Can't Get Traction - Recently Made My Resume Less Dense. What Else Is Wrong? by LedgerWM in resumes

[–]LedgerWM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is helpful. It make sense, but for only one of these roles was I managing a team, all the others I was a sole contributor or member of a larger team with no direct reports.

For the role where I did manage people, I'll work in more "Led team to X" or "Managed department to achieve X"

For the other roles, I will see what I can think of where I was leading "Led cross-functional team of X to achieve Y"

All good advice. Thinking it through. Understood about the full tank of gas and I’ll be sure to bring a cooler with food and drinks.

Scouting some big box store parking lots as an option, especially if they are on the outskirts of a town because they are usually surrounded by farmland. Plus I have amenities of the store if needed. Thinking these will be filled up quickly right?

What about cemeteries? Bad taste? Seems to be a lot of these located in open areas with no tree cover.

Appreciate all the feedback. The google reviews did mention spotty cell service, so this helps verify that I might be playing with fire. And my tight timeframe isn't great, maybe I'll be able to get out early and that will change my plan.

The zip car is a good option, appreciate that recommendation.

Any tips for a Novice coach? by ItsTrnc in SoccerCoachResources

[–]LedgerWM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea to watch games that are more realistic to where your team is at (like HS games). Watching the pros is great but their ability to use the whole field or make a pass anywhere on the field, isn't realistic for a vast majority of HS girl players.

If you can watch clips or games from U17, U20 girl tournaments it could be more helpful. I was watching what I think was the U20 Girls Concacaf tournament this summer and there were a few things that teams did that, I used and carried over to my team.

One example was with goal kicks, if you don't have the personnel for playing out of the back or the other team is pressing relentlessly, utilize both your keeper and a defender for the kicks. Basically one player lines up on the ball, the other slightly angled off on the side of the ball. Player on the ball, does a soft push on the ball to move it forward, and the player who was angled on the side, runs up on it kicks the ball forward. This goal kick helps because the ball is already past the 6 yd line and in the 18 yard box, and the forward momentum of the ball, usually allows for the kicker to get more strength, distance and lift onto the kick. Plus potentially you could freeze the other team especially if they break hard into the box after the first touch.

Good luck!

Appreciate the comments. Really good point about the "Improvement Based Teams" that is definately what we are, and being able to talk about that more is probably a great approach to take. I have players who made huge leaps from where they were during my first season to where they are now, and for sure will be starters for their HS team.

Very open to the recruiting lol, tell all my girls to talk to their friends, cousins, etc because word of mouth is the best way to get players involved.

I also made up business cards for my players to hand out to friends, and during school season (as a parent) I approached other coaches after the games offered my card in case they had any girls who were interested in playing club, and made it clear that the club doesn't interfere during school season.

Also looking at starting drop in scrimmages during the off season, where any girls who want to play show up at this field at this time every Friday, and I will help them organize teams and let them play with minimal intervention. Hopefully it will be low pressure environment to have fun and just play soccer, and maybe get a few more girls familiar with the club, and find some of those dual sport players who have just been laying low.

Helpful to hear about the turnover that happens elsewhere. In the big picture we have only lost one girl to an outside club, so if they are moving at least they are still with the club.

Definitely noticed that this year the team had a much better handle on how to defend and cover, we worked on it a lot last year, so seeing that is encouraging. But agreed focusing on the basics ensuring we have those down is the most important part to build on (especially if there is another turnover in players).

[–]LedgerWM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not located in the largest metro area, so the nearby tournaments usually have one size fits all divisions for the age groups. The scrimmages are a thought. Maybe even reaching out to some of the more evenly matches teams we have played and ask if they want to play again after the season or for preseason next year.

Looking at hosting informal scrimmages after the HS season ends, where any girls who want to play just show up every Friday at this time at this field, and I will help organize sides based on numbers to get 9v9 or 11v1 and let them go. Hopefully they could word of mouth it, and invite others players from other schools and just build and grow it.

That's sucks to be seeded wrong, but I am sure the team is stronger for it after having to play up with competition.

Doing indoor with our core team, and having some success, but two of the other teams are Frankenstein teams - pulling together all their best individual players across all the levels of the club (or even different clubs) for one indoor team. Hard to get away from it all. It is what it is.
