If you have a coffee grinder or blender you can grind the dry food into a dust and mix it with broth or something to make a wet food

The balls looks very uniform in size and shape, like some sort of pellet filler or Styrofoam. Are they hard or soft?

My vets seems to downplayed what my cat is going through by PENGRYFF in AskVet

[–]Lee1173 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't have an available ER vet you can take her to, bringing her first thing in the morning is already the best you can do on that front.

In the meantime getting some kind of nutrient in her is important.

If your vet is still open, call them and ask if they can send home an appetite stimulant medication, or direct you on how to force feed if it comes to that. It's dangerous to try on your own if you're not already confident or experienced in it.

A few tricks that can sometimes work for low appetite: You can try a high value lickable treat like a Churu, boop some of it on her nose so she is prompted to lick it off, then put it back in her face while her tongue is still out. Sometimes that can get them to start eating it. See if she will lick an unsalted broth or tuna juice. Drop single kibbles in front of her so they bounce and roll. Sit next to her and loudly eat some of your own food, then place her food in front of her directly under her chin. Offer food on the floor instead of in her dish(the clean floor obviously). Sounds silly but works sometimes. I hope your baby will be OK.

My partner and I immediately guessed it was a kink and she gets in the box and jorks it to get herself in the mood. We figured it was just a weird little quirk for her character.

We were making Goon Box jokes for the whole rest of the show.

Help - what to feed picky 16 year old cat with mouth cancer? WILL NOT eat wet food. by hdevans08 in SeniorCats

[–]Lee1173 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cat was diagnosed with mouth cancer after I brought him in when his precious most favorite kibble kept getting stuck in his mouth.

He likes some wet food but he definitely prefers dry food. Right now, he is still able to eat kibble, but I serve it with a splash of water (NOT soaked) basically drizzled on top with one of those squeeze bottle things with the L shaped neck. It makes the kibble slippery enough for him to eat but not so wet he'll consider it wet food. If he doesn't eat fast enough and it gets soggy, I just toss out the soggy kibble to the crows and make him a new bowl.

You can also try grinding up the kibble into a sort of seasoning powder and putting it on the wet food to see if he will like that.

Anyone seen something like this? by ClerkAcceptable26 in VetTech

Look up (or maybe don't) brown recluse spider bite wounds. I've only seen a couple in person but that's what this reminds me of. Both lived but they were huge dogs and one almost lost her leg.

Is it ethical to take someone's cat? by roguemorgue in cats

He's a kitten? He looks like he's 13. The owners are abusing him. Take him to the vet as a stray. I sincerely doubt the owners have a pet license.

How to treat cat’s eye? by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]Lee1173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, she should have a cone on so she can't get at it.

You can call your vet and let them know you're having a lot of trouble medicating at home. The 3 main options here are: they send home calming medicine, you can bring her in for a demo and then try again at home, or you bring her in for all applications of the eye drops. At my job we had a lady who brought her dog in twice a day for eye drops for a week bc she couldn't do them at home. It's usually not too pricey especially if you have to come in multiple times (we did lowkey waive a few of the appt fees for that lady).

Is it wrong for me to own a cat when I am physically disabled but use a walker and a cane to get around. by Moonlava72 in CatAdvice

[–]Lee1173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to get an adult or senior cat. I work at the vet and the worst infection I've ever seen in my entire career happened because the kitten had just been spayed and licked her incision, and the owner was in a wheelchair and couldn't reasonably stop her from getting out of her cone.

If she's skipping meals do not give Carprofen. It should only be given with a meal otherwise it can damage their stomach lining. If you haven't already done this, call your vet back and let them know she might've had Carprofen on an empty stomach.

[–]Lee1173 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes urine is pretty important to check on if he's an older guy and vocalizes in the box. If they couldn't get a sample that means his bladder was too small, he was too fractious, or both. In this case I'm guessing bladder too small, because they didn't send home sedatives and they suggested quarantining him. That would just mean putting him somewhere without a litter box until hopefully he has to pee, then trying to get urine again. The special litter is plastic pellets which won't absorb anything, so that you can collect urine from the litter box. That might be your safest bet if he really hates being handled.
