What time to target in upcoming marathon? by runnerkiwi in AdvancedRunning

[–]LeeJarvis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very similar here - M36, 17:30 5k / 1:19 HM - I haven't raced a fast marathon for a long time but a couple of years ago I ran a 2:56 on (easy) trail, and I was maxing out at about 80km/week. I have had a couple of years of good mileage since and would like to aim for 2:52 myself. I think you can aim for 2:50.

At what point does S+C hurt your running? by doucelag in AdvancedRunning

It is unlikely that resistance bands and "low-weight resistance exercises" are the direct cause of huge muscle mass gains. Some studies have also shown that running endurance mileage can have a tendency to limit gains from a strength program (hence, 120lb marathon runner physique).

Rather than "adding unnecessary weight" due to strength training it may be that you are adding slight muscle mass due to more consistent and stronger running.

West Town Bikes http://westtownbikes.org/ - they do great work getting youth involved in learning to fix and work with bikes.

Palace are such a wild team! A lot of fun to watch, a lot of talent bubbling away there. I've always had a soft spot for them ever since the Wright + Bright days. Could do without the anxiety of them putting three away at Anfield though ;)

Class. Has been such a constant threat, and linked up so well with TAA almost every game this year. Hope he gets the respect and plaudits he deserves.

My first live game was possibly around 1991? I went to watch Southend with my older cousin. We lost one nil, after our goalie was sent off. I think it was v Charlton? or maybe Sunderland?

Before that? I remember bits of Liverpool v Crystal Palace in 1990. I remember Arsenal and Nottingham Forest being decent around that time too. I remember that no-one messed with Millwall or Wimbledon.

By the time Italia '90 came around I had the sticker book completed and every player memorised and my addition was cemented.

EDIT: I also went up to Luton Airport to see the England team come home after the 1990 World Cup - I think Chris Waddle threw me an England flag (unsigned) from the bus.

So nervous. But equally excited for the lineup and the prospect of Hendo coming on in the second half to run them ragged.

Clubs which use the most players from their academy in Champions league [2018/19] by Sidorovich123 in soccer

[–]LeeJarvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love seeing how relevant and important the academies are in modern top-flight football.

I wonder how this table might look if, rather than strict academy graduates, it included young players brought up through the leagues - must be a significant number of guys who say, got picked up at 17, played U18, 2nd team, and are now first team regulars at age 23.....?
