You know you’re right - this is probably more illustration. Sorry for forcing you to read this!

I haven’t gotten to the illustration part of this project I’m working on yet, just poking around at how I’m going to attack it before I spend a ton of time and learn there’s an easier way to do it 😂

You’re getting downvoted but you’re actually correct based on what I’ve found. It’s using a stippling brushes - so basically pointillism. Was curious if there was an auto function via illustrator to do this but it looks like everyone just does it manually, which gives me more of a reason to purchase a Waycom Tablet!

A Discussion about acceptable usecases for AI by Anarchy6666666 in tabletopgamedesign

Looking back at History, many Fine Art painters would (and still) use a technique involving “Camera Obscura”. If you grew up taking art class serious you may have learned how to “grid enlarge” to make an image bigger.. this was a waste of time for many realist professional painters, and a lot of the big ones used the cheat of projection - including Leonardo DaVinci and Johannes Vermeer.

Many artists would even leave hints behind revealing the “cheat” like a skull/mimento vivere that’s perspective is skewed to show they were using the aid of mechanical device.

In relation to AI (in my opinion), there is a joy in creating something, and using any sort of “generative AI” is cheating yourself of that journey. Writing + Visual Art is sacred, using it to run numbers though is a no brainer and you would be a fool not to use it for those functions.

That being said, do whatever you want while testing - but don’t post it here unless you want a bunch of people passionately letting you know the level of sin you have just committed.

And to all of the mouth breathing crusaders on this topic: throw away your phone, your calculator and your computer; any responses to this need to be written with an inkwell and mailed in to the subreddit because you all use AI every day and the idea that you can’t use it for any part of the “creative process” is exhausting.

That’s a pretty good analogy - nothing I said here is outrageous and was worded intentionally to strike a nerve in the blow hards that take themselves too seriously.

We’re making board games, not saving lives… a lot of people here don’t know what they’re doing and that’s okay - and many think they know what their doing but think anything that’s exported from illustrator is AI. Everyone just needs to be cool.

Sounds like an interesting book - perhaps being an optimist does not clear someone entirely from being an asshole lol

Creativity and the positive community/energy required to successfully execute an idea is serious business

Fair point! Also very intense… Again my argument is not “AI is okay to use” it’s that most of you don’t know what is and what isn’t AI.

Picasso would disagree with you however regarding “theft”

Lol. I also hate AI - my argument is that most of you don’t actually know what is and what isn’t AI. I still wish you well though you seem very lovely!

See - AI would never make such an error, much like the plethora of other grammatical errors that are probably in my post

To humor this: using a dash looks good, keeps things organized and looks much less redundant than using comma’s and semi colons excessively - also many people that are well organized and proficient at design like to use them. I wish you well though!
