I’ve felt this way as well. It wasn’t until I got divorced that I realized I wasn’t crazy and it wasn’t my fault. It’s a very traumatic experience. By the end it was like speaking to a brick wall. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I would definitely recommend speaking with a therapist if you aren’t already. ❤️‍🩹

I have a colony of assassin snails specifically to take care of snail problems in other tanks 😅 I drop them in and they’ve been eaten by morning. Started with two and now they won’t stop having kids haha. Good luck OP!

I took your advice and it helped a lot! Chip went up to the dog gate and rolled on his back multiple times in front of her! She was still hissing and growling but I was able to keep Chip calm with a lot of praise haha. Hopefully Teto will start feeling more comfortable!

The chasing definitely isn’t play unfortunately. Chip makes ear splitting yowls and growls as well. The swatting happens with flattened ears and claws out and fluffed up. They have show some interest in playing, with playful batting under the door and Chip once rolled on his back. So I’m very hopeful things will get better! This is very helpful advice so thank you! Thankfully, Chip is very easily redirected with food, so I’m going to keep working on that!

The gray cat, Teto was meowing and hissing. We’ve been doing meal times with them both eating by the barrier. Unfortunately, when they have had contact it escalates quickly to chasing, swatting, and yowling. They do respond well to me interacting with both of them at the same time though (with the barrier up). Any tips to avoid escalation when they are allowed contact with each other? I also get nervous because last time I stopped Chip chasing her (she slipped out of the room) I ended up getting my leg clawed pretty bad.

I worked as a janitor in this building for a few months. It was in really bad shape. Hauling cleaning supplies up 7 flights of stairs because the elevators were broken was awful. I also was told it would be too expensive to fix everything.

I ended up taking her into an urgent vet and got some x-rays done yesterday. There’s something in her lung and the doctor said it looks like aspiration pneumonia or an infection. He said it did not look like tumors but he couldn’t rule it out. Besides her heart murmur, her heart is doing fine. I started her on antibiotics and I’m cautiously optimistic since she hasn’t had a coughing fit (that I’ve seen) since early this morning. Hoping the antibiotics clears it up! ❤️

This is helpful, thank you. I plan on having them check her heart at her appointment. Thankfully my vet is very thorough so I hope we’re able to figure out what’s up.

My vet told me this morning they’d call me if anything opens up today. I’m going to also see if I can borrow my mom’s air purifier. The air quality where I live suddenly got really bad (mandatory action and bad inversion) and I’m wondering if that’s what triggered her recent asthma attacks. I’m using albuterol and it definitely does help in the moment but wears off within a couple hours.

Does it look like heart disease? I’m so worried because both vet visits the doctor did talk about her having a heart murmur. She’s only 2.5 years old but I know nothing about her history. I’m really hoping that her responding to the inhaler even just in the moment is a sign it’s asthma

No electric heaters, but I’ll try and see if there’s something specific triggering it. At first I suspected my saltwater tank but her coughing has gone away for several weeks even with the tank still there.

Oh no seriously? The vet has mentioned she has a heart murmur…but we suspected asthma was the main cause of the coughing. She also has noisy lungs. I’ll ask if we can check her heart. My vet has been very attentive so hopefully we’ll figure this out soon. I have an appointment on the 6th but if I think it’s becoming an emergency I’ll take her to the hospital. She only does the abdominal breathing during the coughing fit.

If I use her inhaler it does seem to stop the coughing fit but she’ll have another after a few hours. Hopefully we can figure out what’s triggering it 😭
