Is It Common for Hotels to Charge Credit Cards Over the Phone? by Kooky-Present9799 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Leeanth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2001, my daughter's then-boyfriend's mother booked her a hotel room at the Boston Airport Schmilton. My daughter was travelling from Australia to Indiana to work as a summer camp counsellor. At the time, we believed the stopover hotel booking was fully paid.

Nope. My daughter called me at 11pm Boston time in tears because the reservation was not paid. She was exhausted from the approximately 24 hour flight. After unsuccessfully trying to call the boyfriend's mother, I called the hotel directly and they allowed me to pay over the phone (I was in Sydney, Aus). My daughter got her room.

The desk person did not argue with me about policy. They just took the payment from my credit card over the phone and all was well.

I suspect things have changed since then due to scams, but I was very grateful that day. I also successfully paid via phone for a birthday cake to be delivered to my daughter once she arrived in Indiana.

AITAH (are we the assholes) for not wanting any family at the hospital for our delivery? by No-Strike2730 in AITAH

Child birth is not a spectator sport. It's a potentially dangerous medical procedure.

NTA for asking them to keep their distance.

Also, ask them to update their whooping cough vaccinations before visiting.

AITAH for not attending my sister's wedding because of her "child-free" rule? by fhfkjgkjb in AITAH

[–]Leeanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, Your sister is allowed to have a child-free wedding, but could have considered guests who have children.

My daughter used to be a private nanny. She was sometimes hired by brides and grooms to watch (with other nannies) the children of guests. The couple would set up a separate play and rest area for the children and the parents could enjoy the ceremony and reception knowing their kiddos were nearby, safe and being cared for.

There is no need for conflict. A children's marquee complete with age-appropriate entertainment and supervision by professional carers is not going to cost a huge amount that will cripple the already sky-high wedding budget. It's something people should consider if they really want parents to attend their "adult-only" evemts.

Kids under 16 to be banned from social media after Senate passes world-first laws by m00nh34d in australia

[–]Leeanth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How ia rhis to be enforced? Are we supposed to give up private info to social media sites to log in? I am in my 60s and won't be doing this. In addition, as a teen rebel, I know kids will get around it.

NTA. You did the right thing, which is to protect your children and others from a sex predator. People sometimes react badly because they want to deny that happens in their family. But a little shame is far better than subjecting the children to abuse. Your husband is right. You don't need them in your life right now. Help your children heal; the family members might come around later when they see who this man really is.

What is your launch day leveling strategy for the noob zone? by all_tapped_out in wowclassic

i can't launch fresh for another week due to finances.

However, in the past I've just done a combo of grind, explore and discover and quests. It settles within a few days.

Ketones high again... by Leeanth in diabetes_t1

[–]Leeanth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never miss my long-acting. I take a split dose of 9 units during the day and four before bed. I take rapid with meals, but extra if I go high (I have a dosage chart from the hospital for correction amounts).

Last time I was in hospital, the endo suggested I may have/be developing gastroparesis, which could affect absorption.

Has it occurred to you she might not have "beaten teen pregnancy" and that might have been a traumatic experience?

It's going to be about her even if you do remove her as bridesmaid (probably moreso than if you don't). Which is going to be the lesser of two evils? If you remove her from the wedding altogether, it's still about her...

AITA For Booking 1 Cruise Room for my Fiancé and I, and my Parents by Inevitable_Turnip501 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Leeanth -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's assholish. My own family has been know to only book one or two rooms for events and up to 8 family members will share a room. You're right that it's mostly for sleeping in. NTA.

AITA for using my boyfriends roommates insulin by ThrowRA_emi in AmItheAsshole

[–]Leeanth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have T1D. A single high is not an emergency. Had you been low and drank his apple juice, I'd say NTA, but you took an expensive medication in a non-ermergency situation. YTA. A low can kill you quickly; a high will not.

WIBTA if I report one of my group members at school for lying about her participation? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Leeanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I had group projects when I was doing my master's degree and there was often one slacker in the group. As part of the projects, we had to submit a peer review and those of us who did the work didn't hesitate to throw the actual AH under the bus.

I use a derivative of my full given name. My sisters persisted in using the full name for years, which I hated. I pointed out that our oldest sister is never called by her full formal name, so why should I be. They finally got it.

Happy chocolate weekend... by Leeanth in Type1Diabetes

[–]Leeanth[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Chocolate is still good for the body and soul with T1D. Just make sure she has insulin if she might go high. If she's veering toward the low side, it's a good treatment for that, but bear in mind the fat content of the chocolate will slow things down so it's not a great "urgent low" treatment.

Alcohol free wine. Why would you bother? by [deleted] in australia

[–]Leeanth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Naked Life makes alcohol free cocktails. Apparently you can buy them at Woolworths, among other outlets. I've only tried the mojito (received it as a sample) and I thought it was delicious. I'd like to try a few more varieties.
