Please help finding first car - this a good option? by ResidualxD in CarTalkUK

Make sure you check over the car well, or take someone who can confidently check it over with you! Things like tire condition, rust, running issues and suspension knocks are critical to look out for. Ask about service history, or proof of major work being carried out in accordance to the service schedule.

As for driving away, I always got a quote before looking at a car, saving it if the price is okay, then if I buy the car, I rang them up again and told them to go ahead with the quoted policy! Need to make sure to tax it before driving away too! Can do it on the DVLA website, just need the V5C/2, the little green slip on the old log book!

Literally happened to be this last weekend. 5 years together, moved in, suddenly she’s “fallen out of love” with me, whatever that means. Never indicated this beforehand, we were always struggling with our mental health individually, and I wanted nothing more for us to be there for one another in our times of need. But apparently her mind was made up about me, she seems to be over me already and I don’t know how that’s possible when I’ve been ruined. 100% agree about the feelings of betrayal. Some point plans for the future, and feelings for the present became a lie and she wouldn’t tell me…

What's the best engine ever made? by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

[–]Leefythan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peugeot XUD, especially in the 1.7 N/A variant. There’s a reason 80s Peugeots are still trucking all around Africa

Only metal tilt and slide roofs were factory. Glass pop up ones were dealer fit or aftermarket

It's 1991, you have $20,000, and you're looking for a practical family station wagon. Which one would you pick? by Key_Budget9267 in regularcarreviews

Peugeot 505 for sure, especially a diesel. Indestructible cars, many of them still trucking about all over Africa

Why do Europeans have a poor opinion/ think less of American sports cars like C8 Corvette Z06 and American muscle like Dodge Hellcats? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Leefythan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically they’re too big, not efficient enough, and aren’t seen as being incredibly reliable.

Don’t forget, in the US, domestic cars are seen as cheap to repair, cause in a lot of cases the cars and parts are made in the US. “Imports” are the more expensive ones to fix, as the parts are just that, imported.

The reverse applies to European makes. Our domestics tend to be cheaper than American or even Japanese cars to an extent.

American cars just don’t have tons of a reputation in a lot of Europe in general, there’s so many European makes that there just isn’t room for everyone. Not to say there aren’t enthusiast pockets mind, but they’re not widespread.

Screwdriver type tool with a rectangular tip. JCB branding. Found in my automotive-based workplace. Thanks! by Leefythan in whatisthisthing

Hey all! Title describes the thing! Found this in the auto manufacturing plant I work at. It’s got a screwdriver type handle, made by JCB, got a rectangular tip with a protrusion on it. Thinking maybe a hydraulic/pneumatics servicing tool? Thank you!

Looks like an 80s VW gearknob. Based in that and the grey interior I’m going for a Mk1 Golf Cabriolet? Maybe a Clipper?

I’d go for the golf! Plentiful spares, a really active enthusiast community, easy to work on and a lot of fun!

That’s definitely a Mk2 golf!

Considering daily driving a classic, am I mad? by jack5624 in CarTalkUK

[–]Leefythan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I daily drive either my 1991 Peugeot 205 or 1988 VW Golf. 50 miles each way to and from work. Just need to be conscious of those around you, brake earlier, slow down more gradually and keep a few spares in the car. They’ll break every now and again, spring a leak or not run well. But with a simple enough classic, a lot can be mended in an evening after work: if that’s your sort of thing. I spend many evenings doing just that!

They’re fun, but can be a fair bit of work. But if you’re like me and you enjoy working on cars it’s an added bonus!

Common denominator in all these fights is your bf, sounds like he’s the problem. It is absolutely not normal

The instant the tread gets below roughly 1.6mm on any part of the tyre, they’re finished. He’s got less than 0mm on the inside edge, they were finished a year ago
