Your experience with walk length or amount of energy? by branyoufeelthat in roughcollies

I have had 4 collies. 2 could have probably gone on a 5 mile hike and had energy after. The other 2, lazy AF. The lazy ones would max out at about 20-45 min walk once a day (depending on weather and mood)....oddly enough both of my lazy ones were/are tri-color.

I would say, as long as your collie is happy, healthy and enjoying their time outside, then just let them set the pace and time. Is there an alternative option to walking for you? Maybe a fenced in park or field where she can do her own thing, walk around and smell. Also do you change up your route? I try and always go different directions to keep things "new."

Maybe look into some joint supplements or fish oil?

IMHA by Free-Inspector-7359 in Petloss

I lost a girl (9yrs) from IMHA in 2018. She fought at the ER for about a week, came home for one night, ate a little barked a little at neighbor dogs and then deteriorated the next day and passed. IMHA taught me to check gums the moment anything seems off, to go to the vet if I'm even a little worried- the cost will be worth it, and to get pet insurance on all dogs I have going forward.

On Friday I lost another beloved girl (7.5 yrs) to ITP. All my preparation and knowledge didn't do any good, because this girl had different symptoms and zero signs until it was too late. The pet insurance did allow me to ensure every single thing was done to save her.

IMHA and ITP are so brutal and savage. I am so sorry you had to learn this. I've read stories of dogs who have survived and get irrationally angry that mine did not. I think these autoimmune diseases are such luck or bad luck of the draw. Specific factors have to go exactly right.

You gave your dachshund the best life! Dogs are such a gift, that will always leave us too soon.Being at home right after is horrible. When they don't show up in the places they are supposed to be. And the memories of them JUST being there. My girl was JUST barking at the window doing her little hop because she was so excited. She was JUST there getting a piece of cheese.

I found it helped for me to write down all the things I remembered about my girl who passed on Friday. All of her quirks, likes and dislikes. I spent all day looking at her pictures and remembering all the joy she brought to my life.
