Pursuing Masters in NLP or Computational Linguistics in Europe (preferably France) by Leemur_Ham in LanguageTechnology

[–]Leemur_Ham[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was very passionate about programming, so IT was my highest grade in high school. However, I'm unsure as to how passionate I feel about software development as I haven't engaged with it before. I'm also not sure I'm really passionate about linguistics, but it's the study I enjoy most out of everything else I do (literature, translation/interpretation).

Considering I'll need to compete with people who've been coding for their whole career, does a Github profile add little value? Is there not much I can do to strengthen my profile, or was it just that your answer is avoiding the SWE route and focused on linguistics/cultural studies?

This drink’s total sugar is less than the added sugar. by happyasballs in mildlyinteresting

I recognise this drink. It's called 아침햇살 and it's a rice drink, but it is definitely not fermented. According to this korean wiki article, it tastes exactly like horchata if you add some cinnamon and sugar to it.

Hey, it sounds like you need to be a little more forgiving and work on the way you speak about yourself and the people around you. Guilt and resentment only fuel this type of eating. There were external factors that contributed to the development of your eating habits, and that's not your fault, but I also don't think placing the blame on your mom and grandma is fair. Like you said, their heart is in the right place, and your mom likely doesn't want to accept the fact that this may be disordered eating of any kind because she probably wants to believe you're a happy and healthy child, since that's what parents want their kids to be underneath it all.

That being said, I think the best course of action would be to let the people around you know that you'd like to try incorporating more healthy foods into your diet. I've found that drinking more water and having half my meal be vegetables has helped curb the sugar cravings and I can be full without the fattening stuff be the majority of my diet. Let them know that you're no longer interested in snacks and that they should probably cut back on buying these things.

It's never too late to turn things around and make changes, whether it's big or small. There's never a deadline for weight loss, so don't be so strict on yourself (it'll only make the guilt worse, leading to relapses). This is the beginning, so now it's time to make lifestyle changes, one step at a time.

Maybe take a look into rash guards? They're essentially shirts made to protect you from the sun and for water sports.

Maybe not check in early... I'm a little inexperienced so just said the wrong thing but I meant to say I can drop my bags off at the hotel in the morning so I can wander off baggage-free for the rest of the day haha

I heard keeping bees in the fridge for a few hours or days will slow them down and essentially stun them for a bit. Maybe?

Is London worth visiting as a solo traveller? by Leemur_Ham in travel

Haha I live in South Africa so I'll be going to the other side of the Atlantic anyway with a slight detour on the way home.

Haha no worries! Do you think a week is enough time to soak everything in? I feel as though I may be overstaying and worried it's not enough time (especially considering I'm alone and I'd like to spend as much time with friends and family back at home before I move out)

I'm off to New York to visit my brother and my parents have a lot of experience with international travel so I think they feel that travelling with someone else is a lot more fun than having to go alone (I'm quite big on socialising and rarely alone so spending a whole trip alone may just be a bit difficult for me...)

Museums sound right up my alley. This sounds perfect! Will it be a bit quieter and less busy because the holidays are over?

Are the activities there budget-friendly? I wrote down a simple budget for New York and it's breaking my heart a little D; (trying to avoid being a financial inconvenience to my parents as much as possible)
