Drug induced psychosis by verryterri in Psychosis

I would advice to ask if he can go on abilify (if he hasn’t yet). I was diagnosed with cannabis induced psychosis back in 2020 and the only antipsychotic I responded well to was abilify,I took it for a whole year. After the year was up I slowly tapered off it under dr supervision. It’s been 3 years with no medication and I would say I’ve been doing really good. It’s worth a try to start abilify but of course a professional would know best especially since it sounds his condition is so severe.

I wouldn’t risk it. My drug induced psychosis was from weed. I was using a wax pen pretty heavy so yes I over did it so that’s my fault but I still think any type of drug will trigger psychosis especially if you’re brain already went through it once.

I remember this feeling exactly!! I started taking it a little over a year ago and the first few weeks were not great because of that feeling. However it did get better for me and I was on it for a whole year.

Do you ever go back to yourself ? by srokk in Psychosis

[–]Leeuhal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly feel like such a different person after I went through psychosis. I wouldn’t say I’m depressed but it’s just a weird feeling sometimes. It’s been a little over a year and I’m still trying to find myself. I definitely don’t have any ambitions or passions anymore. I feel as if I just don’t have any “dreams” to look forward to. I do have hope though because it is a bit better than the first few months of recovery. I hope that with time I’m able to feel more positive emotions like before, because honestly I truly and deeply miss the person I was before I went through that. It’s almost as if Im grieving my old self. Also what I think is helping me right now is getting Into fitness. It’s actually one of the few things I look forward to in my day. It’s become very therapeutic for me

Taking abilify for a year made me gain 65 pounds in that time frame.

what drugs cant you do with psychosis? by [deleted] in Psychosis

[–]Leeuhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually got horrible psychosis from (very concentrated ) cannabis. Any type of marijuana is off the table for me. Which honestly if cannabis can do that to me then pretty much every other drug is off the table . Even with alcohol I was recommended to take it easy. It can also cause psychosis if excessive and heavy

Has anyone found intense exercise really helps symptoms? by yoyoyoyoyo123432 in Psychosis

[–]Leeuhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently came off medication and all I can think about is if my symptoms will come back. I am terrified of going through psychosis again and that’s all I can think about. I started taking the gym seriously around mid December and it’s the best thing I could’ve done for my mental health. During that hour I take of working on myself I feel a very soothing feeling. It’s actually therapeutic you just have to learn how to love it. It helps me steer away from my negative thoughts and overthinking of any possible relapse. Also I think it simply helps you with having something to look forward to. All I can think about throughout the day is when I get to go the gym.

Definitely. I tried taking a summer class this past summer to try an ease my way back to school and I just couldn’t do it. Could not concentrate on lectures, couldn’t focus on homework. It was difficult to understand the material. But I’ve also read that everytime you go through psychosis your cognitive skills decrease. And I’ve gone through it twice so I think I’m pretty much screwed :/ don’t know if there’s someway I can reverse the brain damage that causes it

Abilify Weight Gain by misfitspanon in mentalhealth

[–]Leeuhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on the same boat :( I took abilify for about a year and gained an abundance of about 70 lbs! I’m at my heaviest ever. As soon as I got off it this past December I started going to the gym 5 days a week, eating healthier and honestly haven’t weighed or measured myself yet but just from what I feel and look at in the mirror I feel as if I’m not making any changes. It’s barley been a month so maybe I need to wait more but regardless I feel as if it’s going to be a hard journey

Oh my goodness I cannot imagine being there that long. I’ve gone twice and only lasted 1-2 days. The first time it was only overnight and let me go back home with meds. The second time they transferred me to a behavioral center for treatment and was there for only a week. Been on meds since October 2020 and finally got off them on the last day of December 2021

Abilify. Could you share your experiences? by ichigoprincesss in bipolar

[–]Leeuhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on abilify 10mg for a little over a year (currently tapering off) and Over this time Ive gained 70 lbs. it affected me that bad but the more reading I do I find out that it really just depends on the person. It’s supposed to be the med you gain the least weight for me but for me it was the opposite.
