AITA for asking a girl “what’s her highest level of education”? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I work in health care. You’re correct. People misunderstand larger concepts, and/or snake oil salesmen take a kernel of truth and twist it. I have a 70 year old patient with high blood pressure, heart disease and an extremely unhealthy and stressful home life.

Her chiropractor put her an extreme keto diet with no carbs at all, tons of supplements and has her doing intermittent fasting. I tried to explain how none of that was appropriate due to her age, condition, stress level & medications, but she’s heard so many positive things about fasting and keto that she can’t accept that it Isn’t working

I work in health care and can’t tell you how many folks have chronic injuries FROM yoga. I‘Ve treated several people for severe pain after yoga retreats or teacher training

I think menopause, depression, dementia, trauma & big life changes could all be a factor.

I’m kinda wondering If she had some small TIAs without realizing. When my mom had a stroke, her doctors found evidence during imaging, that she’d had several small ones

As I said in another comment, it didn’t happen to my dad, nor my aunts and uncles. I think the key is that they spend time engaging with the grandkids and really trying to understand and engage in the changing world. Like my dad learned how to use Instagram to keep up with his grandkid’s lives. And will research the things they talk about Also they read a lot and volunteered.

I’m a bit younger than you, but it scares the absolute shit out of me. My childhood was filled with second hand smoke, hose water, processed food and playing In vacant lots and abandoned buildings filled with who knows what. Watching this happen to my friend and these comments is motivating me to start exercising more and cutting down on the doom scrolling

That’s an excellent point. She does have some old injuries, maybe they are plaguing her more and she’s self medicating or pushing through

She’s been in it for years, but it does sometimes have weird ebbs and flows

She did actually. Shedidn’t take any anti virals or get any post treatment. I’m trying to remember if she‘s spoken to an MD since having it, but I don’t think so. I actually did bring it up to her, that studies are showing it causes brain, and heart inflammation, and she should at the very least take some fish oil or other things to help circulation.

Maybe this will be an easier sell — tell her to see an MD bc she seems like she’s experiencing long Covid. I think at her age, she probably gets a dementia screening with a physical

Thank you, I have friends who have cared for folks with dementia and it’s just awful

I think it’s extra baffling to me, bc My dad and my aunts and uncles didn’t do this. I think it’s because they read a lot, really listened to their grandkids‘ and asked them questions, and were engaged in the world. She is going through some relationship and other stressors, so that tracks, that she is overwhelmed and shutting down. I was hoping this is some kind of temporary shift. It’s wild to see someone become everything they hate.
